Argerich's interpretations of any of the major chamber works for either violin/piano or cello/piano are my favourite. She brings so much passion, power to the piano parts which in turn makes for the most impassioned, gutsy and exciting performances.

The last two writers sure are critical. I count myself lucky to hear two great performing artist making music together and what music (unfamiliar to me). The sound and sight production was at the highest level. We onlookers are lucky.

Also around 4:25-4:35> The brooding crescendo from 5:00 to 5:40 reminds one of a bit of the same thing in the cadenza of the Piano Concerto Grieg frequently drew from his previous works when composing new ones.

The most magnificent interpretation I have heard of Grieg's Cello Sonata. For me Maisky is the top Cellist as well Martha Argerich the top pianist of our times. Additionally when it comes to Cello compositions, Grieg is one of the best and most prolific composers. Add all this and it becomes and insuperable piece to listen to (again, of our times).

This is one of those long neglected works that really deserves to be played more often. This is a particularly lovely version. It’s also one of those sonata where the piano part is way more difficult than the cello part. Rostropovich and Richter did a nice job of it too...but this is particularly lovely.

Great interpretation by both. I would like to buy the recording (CD or LP) but I can't find anything....maybe available only the youtube's video? If so, someone can recommend to me a valid recording and performance of this sonata (op.36) of Grieg that is available on CD or LP?

FromtheMindofJake many details of this piece were also in his piano concerto especially the part 5:00 - 5:40, it happens often that a composer put some parts of a piano concerto into other interpretations Rachmaninoff for example :)
