Edvard Grieg: Sonata for Cello and Piano in A Minor, Op. 36
Музыка
Recorded at www.springlightmusic.com
Anastasia Injushina piano, Jian Wang cello
Edvard Grieg (1843--1907) usually gave the traditional musical forms a wide birth, seeking to express himself in lyrical images and with rhapsodic freedom. The Cello Sonata of 1883 was commissioned by the Leipzig music publisher Peters, but Grieg found more personal motivation by dedicating it to his cellist brother John. The premiere performance was given by John's teacher, the famous cellist and composer Julius Klengel, with Edvard at the keyboard.
Along with the Piano Concerto and the third Violin Sonata, the Cello Sonata is one of Grieg's most full-blooded works. Yet instead of classical balance, Grieg aimed at seething emotional expression -- passions reflected in both extremes of tempo and radiant, singing themes and folk song motifs.

One of the most beautiful sonatas in the cello repertoire. Performed with sensitivity and musicianship. Bravo!
Such intensity! Grieg, the cellist Jian Wang, the pianist Anastasia Injushine; the audience was motionless and the concert hall other-worldly. Good to know there is such a world out there.
The grace of the pianist and the power of the cellist...perfect combination!
What a wonderful harmony between the two instruments!
Full of passions and power!!! Bravo!!!
I have listened to this great music several times since June and it sounds better each time ! Thank you for uploading this gem !!!

Beautiful sonata and impressive rendition. Love the rich spectrum of the tone produced by the cellist and pianist which is beyond that of the hair appears on the stage.
Andante has even some jazzy touch. Some old-school smooth kind. lovely piece!

Hi Jian! Glad to hear you play this! Very beautifully, may I add ! Thank you for making the Frescobaldi, Monn album - I was so glad to find it as a DGG recording after we'd talked about those selections ! Thanks for putting those, including the Couperin, together on your album. I look forward to crossing paths again in the future~. Hello there. What a superb performance. I love the way Jian Wang played this piece with that intensity and he played with such clarity, as well as the emotional flow. This performance really inspires me, since currently I'm working on this sonata as well. To whom it may concern, I have one question regarding the coda in the first movement, right before Prestissimo. He played the sixtuplets with double stops which might not make it sound sixtuplets. Is there any musical judgment to that interpretation? Thanks.
Paradoxalement c'est avec Jian Wang que l'accent scandinave de la musique est mis en exergue

Is the sound we are hearing his breathing? (seems like an aspiring sound every few seconds...)

If you hear a kind of "fffffff" it's the wood of the bow touching the strings
