Izzy actually did come back for one episode, and did try to get back together with Alex, though Alex rejected the effort, I believe his exact words were, "I love you, but I deserve better." Which I couldn't blame him for, though was still sad that the writers decided to go that root (ie. initially leaving Alex via a letter).

actually she didn't remember she came back and then when she did he told her that he didn't want her to come back anymore because if she left him once he was scared that she would leave him again. What she had done was she sent divorce papers to him.

Jo was literally the whole package for Alex. She wants kids, she understands his past, she is there for him. They got married. They started of as friends and they are literally soulmates. She literally is so loyal to him. I literally don’t understand why he left her for IZZIE. Izzie literally left him for no reason at all. Like this is so unreasonable.

Yeah I agree. People in real life don't have marriages like Alex & Jo's then decide the one that got away is the romantic relationship to pursue. I don't care if he decided he wanted to live near his kids, he would have brought Jo with him etc.

@@christie3515 oh yeah well when Izzie came back she took the bills and stuff and when they got the divorce and stuff all the bills went back to Izzie really the only reason why Alex got those bills in the first place was because Izzie wasn’t there. So since izzie wasn’t there they automatically have to go to her closest next of kin or whatever which obviously was Alex so yeah he didn’t pay off the debt he just got it and had to hold onto it until Izzie came back and stuff so yeah

They were so good together. It's so sad that it has ended this way. She deserved better than that. Honestly it would have been better if they killed him off....he's never going to return to grey's anyway so to ruin the amazing character development and for what. So sad.

I can't believe that after all the character growth that Alex went through since season 1 that he would actually just leave his wife like that , now what, he is going to switch back to loving Izzie who left him just because she had his kids without telling him !!!! I mean if he wanted to leave the show at lease make it believable !

I don’t think they’d do that. Mostly because the actor for Alex is done being on the show. I haven’t been able to find an explanation online as to why they wrote him off or why he is leaving. But if Jo were to be pregnant Alex would have to come back to address it.

Just saying to me: the end of Alex and what happened (to me) contradicts EVERYTHING he ever said to Jo

i hope she finds someone who'll put her first above anything. i get why he had to leave, for his kids, but for izzie as well?

They should have killed Alex and that way they would have kept the Jo and Alex love story pure and intact and beautiful instead of making Alex into a monster who cheats and abandons his true love! And then maybe they could have made Jo pregnant so that the fans could have gotten the Jolex baby.

I think they got the idea fro Katherine Heighl herself because she did an interview recently where if she could come back she would because she don't like somebody else with her man so the writers may have saw that and put that together. What it proves is that even though he loved Jo he still had Izzie number and was still communicating with Izzie so he never stopped loving Izzie.

I’ve been rewatching the show during social distancing and honestly it’s so hard to not get pissed off at the Alex and Izzie characters now.

I didn't finish the episode with the letters. I watched his letter to Meredith and just couldn't bring myself to finish it. This has to be the worst decision ever made on Grey's Anatomy.

I loved this couple so much. I loved all their storylines and how they only grew stronger from them. The only way for Alex to leave was like this, honestly. He always loved Izzy, even if Jo ended up being his biggest love. With Alex's whole family backstory and his deadbeat dad, it does make sense for him to go to her and be a dad to his kids, something he never had. I just really wish it hadn't happened and that it was Jo he started the family with ;-;

yes he always loved izzie she was his first love and friend but he wasn't always in love with her he pictured her married wth kids you don't think that way about someone your in love he also sad that he didn't want to call her bc he had moved on and pictured her as happy as he was wth jo if that's not closure idk what is he also said in season 8 that thinking about izzie made him sad but when he was wth jo he talked about her bc he had moved on and thinking about her wasn't painful anymore. He made it clear in his letters that he left for the kids not izzie

Who else felt the pain Jo felt when she was telling Link that Alex left her. I was sobbing. This was the worst decision the writers could ever make beside killing off Derek. Izzy didnt deserve Alex she left him and then kept him away from his kids for 5 years and then allowed him to leave his wife!

I actually like this ending. Like, it sucks, but I actually like the writing. They've been forshadowing it for seasons. It shows that Alex is not perfect. He's grown, but not so much that he's a different person. He's still the person to make impulsive choices to benefit himself. Izzie was his first love, maybe not the longest, or the most stable and happy, but the most passionate and the deepest. I totally get why people are pissed at his ending, but I'm not surprised. He's been in love with Izzie for YEARS. I'm surprised he didn't go back sooner.

Lizzie left him ☹️, would have been nice if Jo could have been their step-mom.

Thanks for watching and commenting. 💜💙 Because i have experience being ghosted in a romantic relationship where we weren't even engaged or that committed and I'd known the guy nearly 2 years but we'd only been dating for less than a whole year of that and it was still so traumatic for me, the thought of this possibly happening inside a marriage as happy and sure as Jo's was borderline traumatic for me to watch. I just internalized how this was literally the most awful thing ever that it doesn't even compute for Jo and couldn't resist making this tribute. Maybe I'll even make another tribute to this arc in this future. I still haven't shaken all my feels over it.
