The plastic pieces are miscellaneous reptile supplies, the rocks came from aquariums I used to have running and the challa wood is from a cactus garden, the substrate is a reptile bedding but I have since decided to change it up. Stay tuned for the next cage upgrade and thanks for the comment and view

My advice - you are going to want to get rid of the walnut substrate. I have tried it years ago, and it is not at all appropriate for snakes, namely kingsnakes. It does not hold humidity, it sticks to everything, and it is not good when ingested time after time. The granules are very sharp - more so than dirt. Could be an issue in a small snake like that. These snakes live underground and virtually never show themselves except at night. The humidity in their underground homes is rather stable - somewhere in the 50% range give or take. The better substrates for kings are aspen or soil. Bio Dude sells a really nice soil for leopard geckos and other reptiles that don't need high humidity. That stuff is really nice if you want something different than aspen. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. Since making this video I have learned more about walnut and while I have found more inconsistent consent when it comes to snakes than lizards I have since found a different desert substrate to try. Shedding and eating haven’t been a problem in the months since he’s been in there but stay tuned for the next video of the new enclosure he is in

@@JzsReptiles Its funny - back in the day all we had were pine shavings. There was one company in our area that sold big bales of kiln-dried pine shavings that we all used for our snakes. And our snakes did great - some keepers had 20+ year old kingsnakes and rosyboas always kept on pine shavings. They key is that the pine had to be well-dried. If I was to post a video with a snake on pine, people would go crazy today saying how toxic it is. The internet is a weird place. In any case, aspen is better - less oils, and that came about by experimentation. Good for you for trying out some things (but yeah, walnut is truly the worst, you will be glad you changed..)
