The ICPP have been accused on multiple occasions of being highly uncritical of multinational companies producing excess pollution. I think the old argument of "most scientists not believing in climate change" is getting a bit long in the tooth. You can cherry pick some and use them as your sounding board, but on the whole the majority of non bias scientists categorically agree that the science is correct. High grossing , high polluting companies have a huge amount to lose by letting the public believe that what they are doing is affecting the planet. Scientists on the other hand have little or nothing to gain by supporting global warming but do so because they know the data is valid. I dont expect to change your mind, but when your great grand children are moving to higher ground to avoid rising oceans and sweating in unprecedented temperatures I hope you roll over in your grave. At the end of the day, you can't eat money .

I am not vegan, or even fully vegetarian, but I understand why people choose to go that route. If you research how large farms treat their animals, you might be enlightened. And yes, it is natural for humans to be omnivores, but it is ENTIRELY possible for us in the 21st century to survive off of "just plants." You're forgetting many kinds of nuts and plants contain all the nutrients we need, such as protein and carbohydrates. Vegans can even take vitamin supplements if they're worried about not getting enough nutrients. You say Greta looks "skinny and underdeveloped." You're just used to seeing too many oversized people (especially Americans). She's a teenager, and younger people have a higher metabolism. It's pretty normal to be lean when you're not fully grown. She's not underweight, but I can see why you'd think so since our society just has overweight as the norm. Our appendix is theorized to not be useful anymore because humans don't have to eat leaves or grass anymore. In the past, we managed to survive like that when there was no meat to hunt.

Few do but there is a grain of truth in her message. What is known as a just resolution will need to be undertaken to resolve global environmental issues. You cannot throw 100's of 1000's of people on the dole by shutting down long established industries suddenly and disrupting entire national economies suddenly. Alternatives to polluting industries need to be found. Waste reduction needs to be fast tracked. Alternative means of transport and working patterns need to be established. Tourism and food distribution needs to be localised but not too fast and not too suddenly. I believe that mass tourism has stopped mass warfare in the developed world as people get to know each other better because of mass tourism. Similarly with food production and worldwide distribution, modern people forget what the scarcities and hunger of the past were like. I doubt that the Irish will forget the Famine of 1845-47 or the Dutch will forget the Winterhunger of 1945. The entire planet needs to adopt gradual, sensible and holistic measures which replace lost jobs with new ones. The ordinary working class will not agree to environmental measures if their livelihoods are threatened and all too often, environmentalists are seen as coming from the comfortable educated middle class part of society who do not work in transport, manufacturing, mining and other energy intensive sectors. Trying to get the message across to those in sectors directly in the firing line, those with most to lose, is the hard part.

When your position is indefensible, March a bunch of children to the front line and dare anyone to attack.

@James Gravil I don't disagree with your points at all, but too often I see people on here talking about how we need to eliminate fossil fuel usage tomorrow and that the oil companies are suppressing the green tech. I do agree that we need to do as much with renewable energy as possible. Personally I'm really interested in the prospect of tech powered off the Kirlian field that each of us produces, but we still have a few years to wait for that one. I don't believe in the current Climate Change narrative simply because it doesn't track with what we know about the Earth's history, but it's obvious that we're ruining our home even if it doesn't come in the form of an Earth sized fireball like the left has been screaming about.

I support this girl. She's everything I dreamed of being as a kid but I didn't have a supportive family like her. My parents were ashamed and embarrassed of my outspokenness and passion for important issues and never let me have the freedom to pursue my passions. They would get bored whenever I would talk about things that I felt were important. Plus we didn't have money for travel and that kind of stuff. I am still passionate about the environment despite the majority of my time and energy being occupied by everyday "adulting" problems. About the second issue, though: sharks don't actually eat people. As long as you don't impersonate a fish or a seal you're fine. The animal in Australian coastal waters that actually is dangerous is the box jelly, and these lines don't stop those. Two people per year die to shark "attacks", world wide. About 20+ people die each year from being stung by box jellies, just in Australia. Just a little perspective is all I ask for. Sharks are not directly harmless, but we're not on their menu either. This is an irrational fear. Even great whites will not attack people unless they mistake them for seals, which is why surfers have had problems with them. Swimming on a surfboard you sort of look like a seal when viewed from below. So just...don't. Problem solved! I mean, calling either of these numbers statistically insignificant would be an understatement. But particularly the number for sharks. More people die from ingrown nosehairs than shark attacks, basically.

2001- When I was in high school thousands of Americans died in a matter of a few hours on live television. We watched it happen. Then went back to class to finish the day. 2019- this shite. Kids are soft as puppy crap. A serious course correction needs to occur asap, or we're all doomed

If you have strong evidence against anything that Greta said, put it on the table. I'm so sick of grown men and women ridicule this brave 16 year old. It's not a matter of left or right politics, it's a matter of science and if you don't think the science is right then put your results on the table. "She/he must be wrong cause she/he is a leftist" is not an argument. This is of course true the other way around as well.

You can’t hold her parents responsible for Greta.. she has Aspergers.. and today’s children have a right to to to complain about the state of the world they were born into ..It’s the inconsiderate adults that need to be held accountable for their part and the least they can do is try and change their ways but they just don’tlisten children are entirely innocent here innocent here stop using them as a scape goat..

People are simply people, regardless of where they live. Not everyone in the world are actors, trolls and liars. But actors, trolls and liars come from every part of the world. Trust is a hard thing to have these days, for anyone. But divide and conquer has been thriving in every country around the world. It's time for that to stop and everyone unite so the controlling asshats stop getting their way. The longer the divide lasts, the longer their control remains intact. Everyone needs to call a truce and move forward. Blessings to us all.

If there is no immediate plans and actions, we will extinct as soon as possible. Ozone hole was first published in 1985. Still , scientist can't solve it. Because they are neglected. Ozone hole increases very fast , still not solve. Polar ice , Himalayan ice melting very fast, still not solve. The main problem is temperature increase. All these bad effects are due to negligence. It's too late to save the future. We will extinct as soon as possible. If you don't know anything, keep quiet.
