What makes this even more beautiful is the fact that Sammy Davis Jr. was sick and certainly weak, but still loved what he did so much, he got up and danced. The show was taped November 13, 1989. He died six months and three days later. Before he left this world, he knew he was loved. Just beautiful.

I met a man who worked at the Riveria hotel in Las Vegas right before they closed. He told me that when Sammy would perform with the Rat Pack, he couldn't stay there, and he also had to come in through the Kitchen and not the front door. Finally Frank said if Sammy couldn't stay there and come through the front door of the casino, he would not perform there anymore. All of a sudden, Sammy was welcomed with open arms.

Gregory Hines is the first to come to mind when I come across the words "tap dancing". I wish he were still around bc I dont think he was finished dazzling us.

Watching SDJ is (to borrow a quote from Roger Ebert describing Paul Newman's acting in a movie) "Like watching Michael Jordan shoot free throws in your driveway". Effortless perfection.
