    Hi Warren! Much to the detriment of my own productivity, I've binge watched a whole bunch of these interviews over the last few days, and this is by far my favourite! I've been battling with the idea of upgrading my mediocre motu convertors for a while, and it's great to be reminded to just focus on putting the best music I possibly can into them. Kind regards, Jacob.

    Warren, not dogs! Haha. "Don't be obsessive about the little things, don't be over obsessive" - so much wisdom in that. Perhaps the one piece of ideology I haven't mastered that holds me back from my full potential. Much love for what you do Warren. My best to you and your family.

    I love your videos. This is such a wonderful KZread channel. I'm not new at this, but I am still able to learn more because of your videos. Greg Collins seems like such a great guy to work with as are many of the people featured in your videos. You really make a excellent host as well. I have been recommending your videos to all of my friends in any music or production field. Well done and thank you!

    Brilliant! I just love learning how others achieve the sound quality they are looking for. There are some obvious cross-overs from engineer to engineer, but lots of things that just idiosyncratic. No 'right' way to do anything I guess. Thanks for letting us listen in on this conversation.

    Your discussion about the availability or options esentially everybody can have is interesting. I think prioritizing and having a limited selection has its value, at least for me. I use what I have, I come up with unusual ways to use it and that can lead to interesting sounds I can use creatively. I remember the time I bought my TC G-Major when it came out. Suddenly I had an incredible range of effects and could achieve these over the top lead sounds with reverb, delay and chorus. Today when I record something, I want to create a sense of something by combining sounds rather than slapping an effect on everything. An icredible wide and spacious background keyboard creates this sense of ambience very well without having to put an effect on a lot of other instruments. Having restricted availability of options isn't a bad thing.

    Wow, this is an amazing interview. My mind was blown that this guy uses alot of the same gear that I use in my home studio. For example I love my ua710, distressor, and I am purchasing an ADL 1500. My question is how much does he love that ADL 1500? You never really see them in many videos, but when you see them in a person's studio they always have a big smile on their face talking about them. Dose it give a better flavor than going into a UA la2a?

    I have two questions. I noticed the large monitors have the bass speakers on the outside. I've heard it's best to have the bass on the inside of speakers that lay on their side because the bottom frequencies are mono, or centered, so having the bass closer to the middle is desired. Is this the case? Also, I've seen several videos where there's more than one audio interface - this guy has three? What purpose does that serve? Is that because each interface has 8 ins and three interfaces will allow 24 channels to record simultaneously? Are they chained together via firewire to each other or multiple firewire adapter cards?

    So talking about the UAD stuff. UAD are claiming at the UAD Arrow is zero latency. I'm not sure If that's true, but I've just bought one and waiting for it to arrive, I'll let people know how it is. I'm guess that the zero latency is down to the fact it's a thunderbolt3 cable which can process information very quickly. That's just my thought, but when I get my hands on the Arrow I'll let you guys know... p.s. I'm a bassist so it will be based on my bass playing hahah :)

    Nice place, nice gear, good interview, as usual! On a side note, you know what would be awesome? If you went and record the same 30 seconds basic drum, bass, gtr track in every studio you visit for us. I know that it would probably be quite a bit more complicated to produce but still, that would add so much more to our experience to hear how every place, it's gear and producer/engineer affects the sound. Just a though! Have a great day!

    Probably a problem with the setting of the auto delay compensation in PT on the UAD. I think it's in the playback engine settings. Haven't used it in years. I use Studio One on a PC and Aurdour/MixBus on another PC. With the pipeline in Studio One I can connect and use effects on the other computer. I can track live, from Studio One, through Guitarix in Linux on a USB through the SPDIF and back to Studio One with 10-15ms latency. Pipeline has compensation setting for each instance. Maybe Avid should just call it Tools....lol.

    Does Greg use the UA Console App? You can track with near 0 latency with up to 4 UA plugins on all of your record tracks, and commit them to your DAW. You also have the option to "Monitor Only" so your tracks come in clean to your DAW. The only catch is that you have to monitor through the Console App. It makes punch recording a little more work, but it gives you a plethora of gear to track with and have no latency issues.

  • @Bergatronmusic

    @Bergatronmusic

    8 жыл бұрын

    I should also say, you need a UA Apollo interface to use the Console App, so maybe that's where Greg runs into latency issues, if he doesn't have an Apollo.

  • @jmarston11

    @jmarston11

    8 жыл бұрын

    Looks like he's using a UAD satellite along with the pro tools hd converters. No console app unless you use Apollo converters. My workaround for overdub recording in a session with UAD plugs- direct monitoring. As long as your interface offers a direct monitoring option (my apogee symphony does) , just run your record track through that and leave your playback buffer high for the rest of the session. Or use a sub mixer and monitor from that before hitting a/d conversion.
