That area is a death trap 100ft warning before a lane ending with concrete barriers. Feels like you are playing Tron. Look at Wade Hapmpton, Pleasantburg, Laurens, Mauldin.... they can't plan nothing for the roads. G'ville DT is pretty.... sure, but traffic only drives through it. Plenty of great local restaurants(any local will share this info). On a practical note, learn the traffic patterns. You will hear horror stories about the Woodruff Road shopping district. For me, I just never go there on Friday Saturday or Sunday. One other thing that you may need to prepare for is that it is really hot here in the summer. But, if you can make it until the fall it is the most beautiful place This Side of Heaven. I lived just outside the city limits of Greenville for 67 years and for the last 8 or 10 of those years I never went into downtown unless absolutely necessary. No way would I go downtown after dark unless heavily armed, and then only as a last resort. Greenville has a very violent underbelly and all the long time locals know that. The city and it's propoganda machine, WYFF, promote the downtown at every opportunity but they seriously downplay the dangerous crime. You'd be surprised as to what never makes the "NEWS". When I was growing up Greenville was know as "Little Chicago" and for all the wrong reasons. I'm not sure that has changed all that much, although the publics perception of the town has. Greenville also has about the worst urban sprawl you'll find anywhere. UGLY If you're thinking about moving there don't base you decision on Greenville's well funded tourist campaign check the crime stats and do a little checking into city government. Also check into getting taxed Twice, both City and County. I've moved far away but the last I knew Knox White was the mayor, apparently for life. I seem to remember that his cronies at Bob Jones University kept voting him in. BUYER BEWARE
