Greenhouse Construction Time-lapse

This was filmed over a period of about 6 weeks. My wife and I did everything except the electrical work (which was not filmed). The interval between photos was set to 30 seconds. The film is displayed at 25 FPS. The kit used to build this greenhouse was provided by Cedar-built Greenhouses. The greenhouse dimensions are 10 ft x 20 ft.

    Beautiful. There's no way around it, to get something this nice it takes time and money. I've gotten cheaper, easier to build greenhouses before and they don't last or look nearly as good as this one.

    This was so great to watch. Thank you! We have a 12x18 from Cedar Built in 8 huge boxes on our driveway, waiting to be put up. Can I ask how deep the gravel is beneath your frame foundation? I was planning to embed the foundation frame at least partly within the gravel, what do you think of this plan? Our location is more exposed than yours and I thought it might increase the stability. Any advice or suggestions you guys have would be very gratefully received!

    The gravel trenches were roughly 8-10" deep. The timber foundation sits on that much much gravel. We made sure not to put the rocks on soil that was not already compacted. Be careful, because the weight of the structure will cause settlement and then throw everything else off. Depending on how well draining your soil is and how compacted the dirt is underneath you don't necessarily need that much gravel. If you are concerned about lateral forces moving your structure I would recommend adding either rebar into the timber foundation (pound them through) or earth anchors in every corner. Our structure is well buffeted from the wind so this is not an issue. The friction added from a few inches of extra gravel is negligible (I use to work as a structural engineer). Helical anchors connected into the timber foundation is probably the easiest solution.

    depends on what time of the year we are talking about. In the winter I would say 4 hours or so. In the summer probably 8 hours. I use grow lights though, so that supplements my sun in the winter.

    First, let me say congratulations on a great job building this beautiful greenhouse. This is by far the nicest greenhouse I've found on KZread. I'll go explore their website. I'm actually designing and planning to build a 10'x20' cedar greenhouse so my questions for you are: 1) after having and using this for a full year, would you change anything?; 2) do you find the center wall division useful? The time-lapse was brilliantly executed.

  • @Boisefruit

    @Boisefruit

    2 жыл бұрын

    I would modify a few thing. First of all, I would use the best insulating material possible, even if it scarifies a bit on the looks. So, if ordering this again I would get the triple wall panels. I would also consider pouring a concrete pad, although there are pros and cons of doing that. We wired in 2 220v outlets and this is a must if you are planning to use this all year. You need good electrical heaters. However, the biggest difficulty is actually the summer time. I would seriously consider venting in a large evaporative cooler through one of the walls. It's a full year hobby that requires a lot of attention. It is rewarding, but time consuming, especially if you plan to grow more exotic plants. As far as the middle wall, I am assuming you mean the pillars in the center, I do like having those. It gives me something that I can let a vine grow up. Best of luck! It's worth it.

    How are corner posts attached to ground beams that lay on gravel? Also no foundation set in concrete?whats stopping it from blowing over?? Beautiful structure though.

  • @Boisefruit

    @Boisefruit

    3 жыл бұрын

    This spot is protected from the wind. We decided it wasn’t worth the extra cost and difficulty to put down a concrete foundation. If I were to do it again I would probably do concrete though for a variety of reasons. Corner posts are screwed to the wall sections which are screwed to the wood foundation. Cheers from Boise.

    This is a scam...and why it's so frustrating to watch: NOT speeded up film. But a series if stills played repetitively . It's why you see and think, I just saw that, they are playing it 4,5,6 times and connecting them, ni valuable action. Why the con, have seen your manipulations before. Why not just show the steps honestly...because we really see the AFTER of each step. Nit the activity.
