Greenhouse addition to my Log Cabin | Laying a stone foundation (Ep3)

I wanted to try how the foundation would work without mortar. This technique was used back in the days when it was difficult to get mortar or it wasn't necessary. In my area it's very difficult to find suitabe flat rocks so I had to use quite a bit time for searching them. If the foundation end up being too wobbly I can add the mortar later on, but I guess it will be fine after the frame is on and I'll add some soil inside the greenhouse.

As you say, the corner stones and the end stones are the most important, I think you did ok with the foundation. Always make sure the boulders if it's possible locking each other. Thanks for sharing 🤠👍

Good point. I tried to use bigger stones here and there to lock the structure.

Do you plan to close the cabin side of foundation so to keep the critters out?

Yes, I will propably add some kind of hatch there for ventilation.
I love your videos! How many kilograms weight those rocks? My experience is only with smaller one, when I was kid and build dam in river, lol.

They were heavy. Good thing is that they will store heat during the nights when the greenhouse is done.

Hyvältä näyttää ja tollai ne perustukset kuuluis aina rakentaa. Mulla on itellä tällä hetkellä rakenteilla 40 neliön varasto pihaan ja mä teen myös luonnonkivistä ilman betonia ton kivijalan. Mä vedän alajuoksun sieltä täältä harjateräksellä kiinni isoihin kiviin.

@@FinnishPlayground Kivet on vanhan navetan perustuskiviä. Ovat kooltaan noin 1,5m pitkiä ja suunnilleen 40cm leveitä/korkeita. Kaveri tuli tukkirekan kouralla siirteleen ja käänteleen ne paikoilleen. Olis niitä ollu käsipelin vaikee siirtää koska kivet painaa varmaan 800kg/kpl. Kolot täytän pienemmillä kivillä. Jos joskus haluan ettei varastoon tuule sisään kivien välistä ni sitte aion muurata raot umpeen tai täytän savella tai muuta mutta nyt raot saavat jäädä.
