To those saying "boring exe game", it's not an exe game. It's not really content heavy either, but it's not meant to. It's supposed to be an experience. Has a story to it that you're offered to explore. There's no jumpscare, there's no bloody sonic, it's just... Uncanny. And in that way, I think it is very well made.

I like to think that the game itself is evil, and is forcing a perpetual loop to ensure there will always be a monster atop the mountain. The screen lock mechanic means that, once you reach the top, you are doomed to take the doppelganger's place, no matter what. Kinda reminds me of Coronation Day a little in the sense that all of your efforts will be for naught. You will lose, and the cycle restarts so that the torment continues. This game is cruel enough to give you the illusion of victory when you get to the top and beat the monster, just as how the forest in Coronation Day gives you the illusion of thinking there was a good ending via the King ending. Hell, Green Mountain goes so far as to seemingly allow the doppelganger, who is ultimately just a previous Sonic who had the misfortune of climbing the mountain, a bit of lucidity, since it is desperately trying to escape the mountain, like a tortured person reduced to a regressed mental state. It thinks beating the living Sonic may grant it escape, but in reality, he was simply going to be replaced with a fresh body. The strange nature of this game's existence, paired with the fact that the only known clue of who made it is a name that bears resemblance to the creator of Sonic PC Port really makes this such a refreshing take on Sonic horror

The name turned out to indeed be referring to the creator of Sonic PC port, John Kunoff, but he was only the decompiler for the game. The actual creator is completely unknown and John is not going to tell who it is if he even knows

i think the most interesting part is at 4:06 where the last thing the boss does is rush to the corner, almost as if he's trying to flee or escape before dying

There technically is way to break a loop but I only just found out recently. Turns out. YOU CAN DIE from falling. You lose a life every time you do in theory. ...die 3 times and what do you think will happen..?

actual dialogue in the files if you're interested -> - we've been trekking up this route forever - couldn't you do it now? - you will get there sooner than later... yeah, speaking of, how far is it? - green mountain is not far - okay, we are here - did you bring the shovel? - no, we left it in the car - it's in the pack - have you talked to her? - not really - why not? - i don't want to talk. - why? - i'm exhausted as it is, i'll set stuff at the clearing - do you already need to go? - no, but I need it to mark something. ( originally out of order in the files , so far this is the most comprehensible version )

9:35 If you can interpret those dial tone things in the first two sets, it will read '91198'. Try to read that as a date format with slight rearrangement and you get an actual date.... 8/19/91, around two months after Sonic 1 was released. This is all a theory of course but hopefully it provides some insight.

See, this is what I like about this sonic fangame! It has no jumpscares, just some really good level design that comes with a boss fight, and at the end, you basically end up getting corrupted and turned in that one boss you defeated! Credits to whoever made this sonic fangame, because let me tell you, they really know how to make a good sonic creepypasta fangame right here!

Something about the deterioration of the world and silence in the last part makes it 10x more eerie than a jumpscare... -eggy

It feels like at the end, sonic goes blind, and the blind sonic tries to get their whole body back only to realize he’s doomed

Ah yes. Green mountain trail. Where hedgehogs become werehogs. A true way to get in touch with your masculinity

maybe the boss is the soul of whoever the two in the file-trapped dialogue buried, and the sonic we play as is the personification of those two? it would make sense in my eyes. the soul sees its aggressor and immediately wants revenge, but quickly realizes that it cannot kill them, and subsequently tries to run away, but is incapable. maybe the creature depicted in the hidden image in the files isn’t of malevolent nature?

This is a very disturbing story Sonic climbs this impossibly high mountain, coming face to face(less) with a version of himself. He fights it, and wins, but now he's trapped. He waits, and waits, and waits, and eventually, he becomes what he destroyed, and the cycle repeats.

I like that the colours look like a game magazine scan

This one gave me heavy Coronation Day and "MARIO" vibes. It's honestly a breath of fresh air from a certain blood demon. Other people refer to it as an Exe thing, but tbh i feel thats mainly because most Sonic horror interprerations were either Exe retakes or something extremely similar. This one however feels like a genuine attempt at having a horror take of Sonic with a quite unique take on things. Something tells me, there might come more games like this one down the road. But even if there wont be, i can definitly say it works. Basing it on Sonic 1 is also interesting, since most rather go for 3&K or smth like Mania instead. I would not mind more like this one or for others to do their own thing in a similar way.

this is just...feels like a bad dream?

Considering the phone number dialing hypothesis I suggested, I've thought about two possible explanations about what happened. We know the name Jared was referred somewhere and, in Hebrew, it's related to the term "descending". Ironically, the term can also be related with "rose" and all the flowers were cut. The first hypothesis is that what we're seeing is a purgatory or Sonic's agony and death, that's why the statues are creepy and with dark tones, that's also why Sonic can't open his eyes and why everything looks so bright yet distorted (similar to keeping your eyes closed outside during a sunny day, but considering the rest as well). He'll eventually get to the top, "sooner or later", and the phone dialing is either an inner call for help or a metaphorical message: he's died. The other hypothesis is that a supernatural entity lures the victim, in this case, Sonic, to his doom, firstly with a call for help, and then, it sucks his life, making the call at the end and waiting for another victim to come (similar to a witch from a movie, I won't make any spoilers about it tho).

Oh I heard this from twitter, kinda weird this recommended me right after discovered this weird sonic mod. I think it's about people being buried there? That's what I heard, others heard it too

I think this game is referring to Green Mountain, a real volcano on an island named “Ascension Island”. It fits the Sonic theming nicely, with Angel Island, South Island, etc.

This is the perfect sonic horror game No blood, no jumpscares, or any stupid and overused cliches at all Just eeriness and with a little hint of mystery

Huh. It started out with Sonic having dementia, then it continued with him fighting his demons, and then it ended with him melting away. That's truly nice, honestly.

Anyways this reminds me of that weird Hackrom "Sonic Sad Hill: Hell of Green Hill Zones"

I feel like there's more to this than meets the eye. The totems in the boss fight are all different lengths, so maybe rolling/jumping in front of them from shortest to tallest or vice versa would yield some sort of result.

Not everything is supposed to have a good ending is what I learned usually This game is mostly a mystery so it makes sense, and it being an endless cycle of a Sonic climbing the Green Mountain to fight a distorted copy Only to become corrupted just like it after killing it Thus the cycle continues
