If you ever take an interest in Nordic mythology, I'd suggest The Witch's Heart by Genevieve Gornichec. I've also been in love with mythology since I can remember and I'm glad it's making a resurgence. I haven't been able to find anything I like regarding Medusa, though...

Galatea (i think it's pronounced Gala-teh-ah?) is a short story that came out in 2013! So you don't have to wait to read it and I even think it's available online. It's only 20 something pages but definitely worth a read🥰

Another excellent video, Lexi! If you don't already follow Jean Menzies's channel Jean Bookish Thoughts, you should. She's a booktuber who's a classics academic currently working on her PHD, and she has amazing classics-specific content. You'll need a new bookshelf for all her great recommendations! She also has a wonderful podcast called That's Ancient History and has interviewed Madeline Miller, Natalie Haynes, and Pat Barker and has tons of other great content there, too! 🌝

Yes! I've always been a Greek Mythology reader and lover. I remember being in middle school and checking out every book I could get on the subject. A few years ago, I picked up Mary Pope Osborne's Tales From The Odyssey for my children....but I ended up reading it myself and loved it.

🌞 Greek mythology amazes me in its ability to come through the millennia, onto our bookshelves in modern day, to captivate people of all ages. My 8 and 9 year old discovered Greek mythology, and have devoured any and all retellings and formats of books I have collected for them so far. And I devour the adult and young adult retellings by night. I would never have expected it. Perfect timing for a video like this, and there are a few of these that I'm now happily adding to my own TBR. Cheers!

There's a book called Daughter of Sparta by Claire M. Andrew and it's about Daphne and Apollo. It's the first in what I'm pretty sure is a duology (or at least will be when book 2 is released). I have a beautiful edition of it from The Fable Crate and from what I've read of it so far, I really like Daphne as a character. Daphne and Apollo are also a myth I don't know much about, so it's exciting to read a retelling of an unfamiliar story.

Yes to EVERYTHING in this video♥️ I was literally squealing when I saw this notification pop up. I haven’t been able to shake Greek retellings and I’m so excited to see a video with so many of the books I’ve read recently. My favorite in your TBR would have the be The Daughters of Sparta 🧡. A couple others I would suggest are The Silence of the girls and the The women of Troy by Pat Barker. I also wanted to mention the Newest Olympian podcast as you read the Percy Jackson series, such a fun deep dive to pair with the series. A book that i haven’t seen mentioned on booktube or bookstagram is Great Goddesses by Nikita Gill, similar to Fry’s Mythos but poetry and focuses on the Goddesses. The copy I have has some really beautiful illustrations peppered in. I sprinkled in the poems in between some of the more heartbreaking moments in the books you’ve mentioned. Also Jennifer Saint is releasing a new book called Elektra and I’m hoping that one catches your eye after reading Ariadne. 🌞🌞🌞

I thought the A Thousand Ships by Natalie Haynes was OK, but I'm almost done with her non-fiction book, Pandora's Jar and it's amazing. An easy 5 star read! While it is non-fiction it reads very easy and is highly accessible. I thought it helped to have some Greek myth background, it isn't necessary, but you do also have that. Each chapter looks at a different women in Greek mythology and looks at different plays/interpretations of them in ancient Greece, retellings throughout history, and modern retellings. She made me want to look back to some of the classic myths I read while in college. She also throws in pop culture references that made my laugh too. It isn't at playful as Stephen Fry, but love her writing. I really can't say enough good things about this book. Stephen Fry does narrate the audiobooks of those, and its really fun to read along as you listen!

Some other 2022 releases on my radar are Pandora (more mythology inspired) by Susan Stokes-Chapman, Ithaca by Claire North (about the women of Ithaca during the Iliad and the Odyssey), and Wrath Goddess Sing (trans woman Achilles) by Maya Deane. I am also planning on reading Daughter of Sparta by Claire M. Andrews next month (Daphne reinterpretation). Also for an older middlegrade/early YA series Mythic Misadventures starting with Pandora Gets Jealous by Carolyn Hennesy.

☀Maybe somebody else already has suggested this, but The Silence of the Girls by Pat Barker was one of my high highlights last year. Even more so than The Song of Achilles. Can't wait to read Pat Barker's follow up Women of Troy 🙂
