Akrotiri was buried in 1700BC when the magnificent volcano of Santorini exploded buried and destroying civilizations all around the Mediterranean.
The Bronze Age settlement of Akrotiri in Santorini was one of the most important Minoan urban centres and ports in the Aegean Sea when it was covered by volcanic ash in the 17th century BC.
Santorini (Greek: Σαντορίνη) or Thera (English pronunciation and officially Thira (Greek: Θήρα), is an island in the southern Aegean Sea, about 200 km (120 mi) southeast of Greece's mainland.
Santorini is one of the Cyclades islands in the Aegean Sea. It was devastated by a volcanic eruption in the 16th century BC, forever shaping its rugged landscape. The whitewashed, cubiform houses of its 2 principal towns, Fira and Oia, cling to cliffs above an underwater caldera (crater). They overlook the sea, small islands to the west and beaches made up of black, red and white lava pebbles.

when I visited Santorini I was 17 yo and I only had interest in partying so I missed all this.....and now I am much older. Maybe one day if I visit again I will have the chance to see all this! Growing older I became interested in history and I like to imagine how people lived thousands of years ago.

Hi Vic, great job! From whom did you get permision to shoot and upload all these great material on youtube? Because I presume that you DO know that a permision from the Greek State Archeology Counsil is required for such a publication, don't you? I admire your dedication and your love for ancient Greek civilazation (we have this in common), but you should be carefull with such minor details...

Dimitris Ziakas That's what the so-called PM Tsipras wants. To destroy Greece's tourism. He's closing down popular archeological sites during summertime periods due to repair (supposedly). Let people film and make our country popular.
Santorini along with Knossos in Crete before the volcanic eruption was one civilization and its name was Atlantis.

Can you please stop filming yourself and show the place around. You can inform people by walking around, like most travel vloggers do. You could use a GoPro to make a virtual tour of the site and write comments underneath.
