No worries..Im pleased its useful. The really important things id focus on for now, is learning the verbs and principle parts as well as all the word endings. Once you have all that down it really gives you an anchor point to work from. If theres anything specific you are struggling with then leave a comment and Ill see what I can do. I wont be able to address every question in a video but for now I can probably fit in the odd one or two! Cheers

Hey aud boy you seem like a cool dude, so I thought I would just reach out and say, please watch out for Ammon, he has helped you learn I can see. But his claims and his sources don't add up. Please get involved with R/ancient greek to get some other perspectives. I know he says don't trust others but you really need to check with other people.

  • @auld_boy

Hi there, thanks for the message and thank you for your concern. Yes, I am at intermediate reading level and have been translating pieces like Euripides Bacchae, Julius Pollux, Diocorides, St Irenaeus etc. May I ask which claims and sources don't add up and your experience with ancient Greek which has led you to that conclusion? From what I can see from the texts then the context is absolutely there. From what Ive seen from the bible scholars who are refuting what he says..they see awful with their own texts! One of them said the word Oistros wasnt to be found in any Christian texts...I was already translating some St. Irenaeus when I head that and knew it to be completely untrue as I had already come across in "Against Heresies". As for their assertion that the term Lestes is being taken out of context..why is Lucian using the term to refer to Alexander the False Prophet..who was trafficking poeple..Lucian is writing at a similar time to the gospels as well as being in a the same area..so the context is certainly there. Jeremy Bentham, an English Philosopher, Jurist and social reformer also wrote about the boy in the garden in the early 1800s..about how the boy was a prostitute and also comments on the Sindon..so Ammon is not the first to do this. Bentham writes about it in "Not Paul, But Jesus" written in 1823 and in "Bentham, a guide for the perplexed by Phillip Schofield in 1958, Schofield says the following: "Bentham noted that some commentators had suggested that the young man was a male prostitute, an interpretation with which Bentham found it hard to disagree - why otherwise characterise him by the looseness of his attire?....The Gospels then, suggested that prostitutes, female and male, belonged to Jesus's inner circle, and there was the distinct possibility, in Bentham's view, that Jesus enjoyed the pleasures of the bed with both." If you are referring to Ammon discussing the early Christians engaging in sex rites and semen communion, then might I refer you to an article published in a UK National newspaper in 2018 (google the headline and it will bring up the article): The Daily Star Easter BOMBSHELL: Lost gospel that could change EVERYTHING about Christianity A MYSTERIOUS lost gospel that was allegedly destroyed by the early church could be a major bombshell for Christianity. "Daily Star Online can now reveal when one of the most shocking lost gospels - the Gospel of Eve. No one knows if a copy even exists anymore of the text, which was first mentioned by early Christian writers. Christian writers claim the book preached free love, sex with multiple partners and the consumption of semen in sexual rituals. Discovery of a full text of the Gospel of Eve could be a major shock for Christian theologians. It is unlikely it would be accepted into the canon, having already been written off and destroyed, but it would be an important window into the early Christians. Ancient saint Epiphanius of Salamis is one of the few contemporary figures to write on the Gospel of Eve. He describes it as being one of the sacred texts of a sect known as the Borborites - which literally translates into the “filthy ones”. It is claimed this sect used a lot of sexual rituals in their religious ceremonies, and also drew heavily on the Biblical character Mary Magdalene. She has been subject of controversy, being claimed to be the wife of Jesus - despite never being described as such in the Bible. The Gospel of Eve is said to have been used by the Borborites to justify free love and “pulling out” as a method of contraception. They also allegedly consumed semen as a form of Communion, which in the Roman Catholic faith contains the ceremonial eating of bread and drinking of wine in a representation of body and blood of Jesus. Epiphanius reported the Borborites as “wicked” and carrying out “filthy acts” which “render impossible the procreation God has given his creatures”. He wrote: "Man and woman, they pamper their bodies night and day, anointing themselves, bathing, feasting, spending their time in whoring and drunkenness.” The saint added: "But although they have sex with each other they renounce procreation. "It is for enjoyment, not procreation, that they eagerly pursue seduction, since the devil is mocking people like these, and making fun of the creature fashioned by God." So this article published in 2018 seems to agree with the translation Ammon gave of Epiphanius too. Once again, thanks for the concern, but from what I've seen, the biblical scholars have dropped the ball. In there arguments they didnt bring any evidence to refute what Ammon is saying. When they were asked about the significance of Biblical Hebrew only having 8000 words...one couldnt string a coherent sentence together in refute and the other said there was actually 80,000 only to be proven incorrect by Danny Jones. So no offence, but its not looking good for the bible scholars! All the best, Auld Boy

@@auld_boy Hey thanks for the reply! i appreciate it! Listen with sindona its mentioned a few times in the chapter, and the context does not match up. Also I have seen only Sindonas that go over bodies I have not seen any source that matches with the use of it as a medicated bandage. I can not answer all your questions super well but I will appeal to your sense of reason. Im really not trying to sound alarmist but I have seen parents leaving comments on Ammons videos saying how much their kids love watching Ammons stuff. and how much they are inspired not like when they go to school. Ammon has not sourced any of his work regarding the translation of the New Testament so its not eligible to be sighted in any serious piece of work. why do you think that is? please, I am not coming at you like an asshole all I can really tell you is i have been watching him for years and at the end of his 1st Galen episode where he talks about lesbos and Fenician i was sorely let down. He said he was going to show us where this bandage was and all we got was poop eating and poop smeared in the throat. I also emailed Perseus tufts and they told even told me themselves that the way ammon is reading stuff into the new estimate is not correct. that's from the website that runs the archive please reach out to them yourself they will reply. think about this would you rather I leave a comment blasting you about how the sources are wrong or just be straight up about what i think! other wise its a never-ending dance you cant keep up with,
