Alex is the very definition of an absolute beast lol. Nerves of steel, and the sheer drive to pursue and attain his goals under any circumstances. Not to mention he is just the perfect of example of a humble, caring person. He is the type of person that everyone should strive to be more like. Not in the balls to the wall; free soloing 3,000 foot rock faces lol, but in his personality and how he carries himself. If everyone was more like him, the world would be a much better place.

I appreciate the description with one exception. “Balls to the wall”. He didn’t just wake up one day and do it, he spent a decade planning and preparing it and conditioning his mind and body to get himself there.

Lastly I believe Alex does what he does to achieve a state of being that transcends the mundane. He calls it “mastery” I would say it’s a situation where you have no inner voice speaking, you are immediately aware of everything around you, every part of your body working as one, there is no time for an inner monologue. I don’t know if he’s ever achieved it, but I like to think he has. Glenn Villeneuve described his solo survival stints in the bush of Alaska a similar way. To paraphrase the latter , ‘when I’m out here for a while, in tune with what’s going on around me at some point I “don’t even think in words anymore” ‘. It’s a state that any who attempts a craft or skill strives for. You could call it the “flow State” as it has been dubbed in the mainstream. I think it is an apt description.

This may sound strange, but when I watch Alex climb on his many videos, sometimes my vertigo comes up in a big rush and I have to close my eyes and breath, all while holding on to my chair for dear life. It’s really weird, yet I keep doing it. The fact that he does it for real is beyond reasoning. I get afraid just knowing that I would freeze up and die, the first time I tried it. Crazy, huh!
