Austria is such a beautiful country with such amazing railway lines and trains. And Wien Hauptbahnhof railway station is massive.
Austrian public transport is absolutely amazing. I haven't taken this section of the railjet but I often travel between Vienna and Prague on the same sets and it's incredibly comfortable even in 2nd class.
Superb train travelled first class from Zurich to Innsbruck. This train sets the standard for all European train services. Great video.
I can't believe these coaches are already 10yrs old 😮Everything looks factory new, clean and modern...love that 1st class blue accent lighting! And that photowall-toilet! What an impact a simple stock photo can have, turning a small (and often a bit uncomfortable) space into a pleasant experience 👍 Who wouldn't love the opportunity to experience this train, especially the tickets being so affordable 😁
Another great trip. Vienna is a great city to visit.
The Semmeringbahn is one of the great European railways, although the Austrian Albergbahn is also wonderful. I first took this journey in 1971 (!) going from Vienna to Rome. Of course back then it wasn't a Railjet. The magnificent scenery going and returning was and remains inspiring, and reinforces the fact that traveling by train provides great views of the country. Dylan - you sat on the correct side of the train. Traveling south from Vienna one should sit on the left side of the train (left when facing the front) as the views are superior; simply reverse that when traveling toward Vienna.
Beautiful scenery and a nice clean train. I'm glad to hear they are not discontinuing the Semmeringbahn when thr tunnel opens. Not everyone is in a hurry.
Totally agree about the seats. I went ČD InterJet last summer and they were the nicest I've been on. The lumbar support was great and they also look so classy. Thanks for uploading and also congrats to you both on the wedding 🎉
Great trip. Fantastic scenery even though it's early in the morning.
Hello Dylan and greetings from my home town of Vienna. Great report! ÖBB is a terrific operator, we are very lucky here to have the 3 great products, RailJet, NightJet and CityJet (CityJet are the new regional trains). For info, the Semmering tunnel is still planned for 2030, but like you say the Semmering railway will remain open. RailJet and NightJet will use the tunnel, and CityJet will continue to use the Semmering line for the regional services to the little towns on the Semmerimg Pass.
Beautiful scenery !
Always concise professional reporting - highly enjoyable - well done!
Thank you for this excellent video. I completely agree about the RailJets, for they are superb in every way. They can certainly fly along the stretch from Wien to Linz, en route to Salzburg !
Very enjoyable train ride! Beautiful scenery!
I´m from Austria and I love the Railjets. 2nd Class is perfect and the seats are, as you mentioned, very comfortable. Also, the Semmeringbahn is beautiful and my favorite route through Austria. Greetings from Linz!

I prefer the ČD livery though
I can only imagine how stunning the scenery would be in summertime 😮 👍🏻. You’d definitely find me seated in Business Class 😉. Congratulations on your recent marriage 🍾
Thank you, your videos are the highlight of my week.
Great video !!
Railjet are great in my opinion.Graz certainly underrated as a city I found plenty to do and enjoy.Thank you as usual for the Video. If anyone can confirm the fate of the journey over Semmering once Tunnel is open would be grateful .As am going to take the journey one more time 100% 😊
What's cool is that Amtrak is getting an American-ized version of the Railjets as their future trains this deacade. The Venture coach (which is the American version of the Viaggio Comfort coaches used on the Railjets) is already in use on Brightline in Florida and Amtrak midwest services (albeit the Amtrak midwest ones have worse seats than the future sets), and they will have dual-mode locomotives for overhead electric power on the Northeast Corridor and Keystone Corridor and diesel for everything else. Delivery is supposed to start around 2026, but we'll see how that goes. Long and short, the fact that we're getting our own Railjets in the US gives me a lot of hope for Amtrak improving long-term. Just needs to have more lines owned by Amtrak or State DOTs and more electrification, and Amtrak can truly be great for regional journeys.
The service offered in Austria, even 2nd Class, looks a whole lot better than anything I've seen on the Midland Mainline (UK) recently!
9:20 I actually used to live in Mürzzuschlag but wasn't sure what you meant the first time I heard you saying it :D Great trip report!
I liked the panoramic toillet. Thanks for the ride 🇺🇾
8:40 Wow, that's an upscale Loo!
Hi Dylan congratulations on getting married I recommend a journey to Liverpool lime Street on an emr class 158 from Sheffield you are my biggest inspiration for trainspotting so thanks :)
Welcome back. Congratulations on your marriage.
Excited to watch this video Dylan. Keep up the good work.

Why OeBB don't use that as an advertising jingle, I'll never know! It would be the new "I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing"!

Hey Dylan, cool video. Aren't you the man about town going off to Switzerland. ✌
My favourite route. Murzuschlag has an amazing rail museum.

Good wishes for you and your lovely wife! I'd love to do this, but being a bit of a monoglot, I'd need a Cicerone to go with me!
What a journey! I would highly recommend a review of the emr class 158s and a trip to the Gainsborough model railway as it's open tomorrow and Sunday from 1:30pm-5:30pm although the last entry is 4:30
Thank you Dylan for a superb video! I visited Austria in October 2021 and travelled around on a first class Interrail. I used the facility of ordering meals from your seat quite a lot. I particularly liked the 'Kaiserfruhstuck' [Emperor's breakfast]. I strongly agreee with your praise for Railjets, but would single out the superb information screens. I can strongly recommend Graz as a place to visit. Note that the double-deck coach seen parked in front of Graz Hbt is on OeBB organized coach service running from Graz to Klagenfurt. Interrail tickets ARE VALID on this very scenic route which will presumably be withdrawn when the Koralmbahn opens in December 2025.
Gorgeous livery.
Will be a shame when the base tunnel opens to miss some of this beautiful scenery, Austria has perfected intercity travel with these sets though imo 😍

Indeed, there is the paranoia with fast journey times and sitting in tunnels and that will mean missing out on such amazing things as the Gotthard in Switzerland and soon sadly the Semmering will go the same way.

Is that definitely the case when the new route/tunnels are completed.I didn’t dig too deep but what little I could find suggested that would not be the case.

@@Michael64425 local/regional railways will still run, but express trains/freight will bypass practically the whole of the existing railway from Gloggnitz to Mürzzuschlag (same start/end points as the tunnel)
OBB graphics are tops. I went from Wien Hauptbahnhof to Klagenfurt, soon trains will run from Graz to Klagenfurt through the Kommel tunnel. A real integrated railway.
Like you, I will combine this and Transalpin in the course of 2~3 weeks. Should be a memorable Swiss/Austrian holiday
The bahnwanderweg hiking trail at Semmering is brilliant. Would recommend highly.
No doubt a rather spectacular train ride; were you en route to Switzerland to ski, ride the luge, or just to hoist a few or more pints? Congratulations on your recent nuptial excursion too!
Kaiser rolls with ham n chesse 😋
I remember travelling with friends during summer, 1:26 that area has good options for food (excluding the burger king). Asian food shop in purple decoration has some great thai, indian, Chinese food.
A great watch. That really was a loo with a view. 😂
Great video...I rode business on Railjet from Vienna to Prague...it was definitely worth the extra 15 euros I paid with my Eurail pass
We just love "quiet carriages". Nobody trying to demonstrate how important they are by shouting into a cellphone. Nobody demonstrating their vapidity with endless 'he said/she said" recitations, and no computer games with annoying beeps and whistles. We travelled in a quiet carriage on a Virgin train service between London Euston and Manchester Piccadilly and it was so nice and peaceful. We booked in a quiet carriage from Edinburgh to London but unfortunately it was a Sunday and the train filled up with shoppers around Birmingham and they obviously took no notice of the quiet carriage signage. We would pay a bit extra for the pleasanter experience.
Only way to travel on OeBB! On the first tranche of RailJets (like the one you were on), Business class is worth the extra €9 just for the benefit of the compartment, but as the second tranche had Business class as part of the first class saloon, I don't bother with an upgrade when I need to catch one of those. I can confirm that First and Business class includes at seat service and you can place orders to the restaurant car from your phone via the onboard wi-fi.
I paid about $40 CND for a round trip ticket on GO from Toronto to Kitchener, and part of the trip was on a bus from Bramalea. For the same price on OBB, you get to travel round trip Wein to Graz.
Could you make a video on Southeastern mainline services? As you've done one on Southeastern highspeed it would be nice to see your view on their other services. A good route to take would be from Charing Cross to Dover Priory.
The austrain train ride is nice you can see the view right?
Quick question: What does it mean about a saloon or a vestibule on a train. If anyone can tell me that it will be much appreciated
@keithparker2206

On the video, business class seats were in compartments (abteil in German), first class seats were in the saloon (grossraum in German) and the vestibule (vestibuel in German) is the area next to the doors.

Interesting how everyone says the Railjet 1st class seats are the best, just a week ago I got to ride both Railjet and the ICE 4 in first class on the same day, and having had table seats both times, the ICE 4 ones were more comfortable in my and my mom's opinion. One issue I had on the Railjet was there was too much legroom. Okay this may sound weird, but the problem was it was further back than the window was, so I had to lean forward to look outside, which probably has impacted my sense of comfort massively.
How ‘bout using a polarising filter…..?
Gra-ts….
Not a fan of Railjet First Class. Seats are poorly aligned with windows. There are the odd seats at carriage ends that have no window views whatsoever (like on our IETs) which is completely inexcusable. Due to the mostly airline seats the lack of inter-seatback space for larger items of luggage is really obvious.
ubb? no also things like Graz and hauptbahnhof arent said totally correct. at least better than saying UBB runs the trains. the name starts with an o (well ö but thats harder to explain as to how to say that).
