Nah, it's okay,. Entirely not their fault. I mean, how could cities have prepared for people using them as means of transportation? After all bicycles were invented only 20 years ago... plus 200 years extra:D There is no bike lane on this bridge. It has too narrow pedestrian area that was now also cut in two because if you don't use a car in US, you're a subhuman.

@t j Honestly, as a biker I agree with this. I can only go half the speed that cars can so if I had to choose between competing with cars or slowing down to maneuver around foot traffic I'd pick the foot traffic any time. It's safer for everyone because as a biker I have more leeway to adjust to pedestrians than cars have to adjust to me. One time some entitled idiot stopped to talk to someone on a sidewalk and decided to take up the entire width of it, but got mad at me for not biking in the road and wanting to pass them. The road section had less than a person's width in space between the outer boundary line and the cement curb, so no room to bike unless I was at speed with traffic which is physically impossible. I was also biking a very short distance on the left sidewalk, taking two left turns to get on and then back off the road so I would have had to cross the road with no crosswalk, bike that short distance, then cross again with no crosswalk all while sharing space with traffic. Yeah, no, I'm not gonna bike through that so their entitled ass didn't have to stop taking up the whole sidewalk. I even gave the courtesy of slowing down to just about walking speed, and stopping before I reached them to give them time to be aware that I was there.

To be fair. With the amount of people stood to the side, and the width of each path, it's inevitable that some people are going to be in the cycle path. Especially with that many people going in both directions trying to get out of each other's way.

To be fair right back at ya. With at least half of these pedestrians, you can tell by how they get out of the way that they knew all along that they were in the wrong place, i.e. in the bike lane. If there were more bicycles, they wouldn't do it. We take chances like that all the time, as motorists, as bicyclists, as pedestrians.

The problem is, if youre on a bike, everyone assumes youre on it by choice, for some kind of leisure trip. But if they hear a horn they think "yeah he wont stop for us so we better move". All the anti bike people raise a good point. You shouldnt have to remind people of the threat of bodily harm upon collision to keep them out of the way. We cyclists agree. I couldnt tell you why it is that they move when they hear the horn and they dont move when they hear the bike, or the sound of a human voice politely asking them to move. Except that they take the car horn seriously and when they hear the bike they... it just sounds like an instrument for leisure. Especially the bell. The bell is a bad choice of sound, its like ringing the bell at some reception desk. No one wants to hear that sound, no one respects that gentle bell noise. Anyways yeah believe me i wish i didnt have to have near collisions... I wish people just respected me in the way i respect them. I dont ride on the sidewalk. I dont ride in the street. I ride on the bike path. But no one respects the areas that are designated for bike traffic. Believe me, i wish i had a car, i wish there was a separate platform for bikes. In fact, i wish i could teleport directly from where i am to my destination. But alas, im here with you on this path, and the more leeway i give you, the more leeway you take, so just move. Lets not play games. One side has a picture of a bike on it, the other has a picture of a person walking. I dont want to move you out of the way any more than you want to be in the way. But we both have things we want to do, and there is no objective metric to say who's activity is of more value (you doing the touristy slow walk across the bridge in the bike lane, or me trying to commute). So look, i dont make the rules, i just follow them.

I always felt that these kind of things would be solved by the technique that I saw "crazy cyclist" do, a few minutes ago in another video. Just pedal and scream. He was screaming words, but I feel like; ' *AAAAAAAAARRGGHHHAAAAAAAAAAHAHAAWGAHHWRGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH!!!!!!* ' can have a great effect too. Especially with some bits of shavingcream around the mouth and a a loud rattling bike. Someone suggested yelling; 'NO BRAKES!!!!' as well. That'll work nicely.

Because it is a bicycle lane. If it was for both pedestrians and cyclists I would understand, but it's not. Cyclists mostly use that lane to get to work, home, or a delivery spot. I don't know if you've ever ridden a bike before, but it takes a lot of energy to get up to speed. If a cyclist has to keep getting off the bike every few meters just so some tourists can take some picture then they won't use it.

I am still very pleased with my bike experience from a few years ago, where I showed pedestrians in a bold way, that they are walking on the bike lane. We had a motto-day in our school - I dressed up as a witch and had my broom with me on the bike (I transported it on my handlebars since it was too long to carry leghtsways on my bike (like 1,5m long broom). Right in front of our school was a narrow path (4-5m wide) and a lot of young 5th graders use to wait there for there 1st PE class (it was next to the gym). They used to be absolute jerks and not care about bikes passing on a daily basis. So that day again lots of bikes came through this narrow path, the kids didnt give way, even though we ringed twice. All of the bikes in front of me fit between the small gap in between the kids - i didnt because of the broom. I didnt stop driving though and just drew through them. Some of them got the broom brushed on their head. Of cause they cried angrily at me - well then make space for bikers 🙄

I do the same thing as a pedestrian when walking on the sidewalk, I never give way to a cyclist.

How hard is it for them to paint a bike symbol every 50m or something. And it's so frustrating to see how all the morons on that pathway make the bare minimum effort to move out of the way when they hear and see you coming through.

Here in Melbourne Australia, we also have lanes designated for cyclists. The biggest problem we face is keeping said cyclists in their bike lane & out of the car lanes.
