I agree that Jordan should've mentioned the time that pizza was in the Korean War. My grandpa has told me about the heroic actions of that pizza in our Korean People's Army. The pizza played a huge role by single-handedly pushing the US and UN soldiers south of the 38th Parallel and saved our country. He is just such an inspiring person especially considering he’s a war veteran. No one has been in as many wars as that pizza. Even when he passes away, he will forever be a legend. Because legends never truly die when they remain in our hearts. Thank you, Comrade DiGiorno, for everything and for being you. Newark Penn Station opened in 1935 and was designed by the same team behind the original NY Penn Station, the Farley Building (now has Moynihan Train Hall) and the Brooklyn Museum, McKim, Mead & White. Despite being 10 miles from New York Penn, Newark Penn is a major station in its own right and is in the top ten of the busiest railway stations in North America. The main waiting room has medallions showing the history of transportation, from wagons to steamships to cars and airplanes, the eventual doom of the railroad age. Chandeliers are decorated with Zodiac signs. Newark Penn Station was extensively renovated in 2007, with restoration of the facade and historic interior materials as well as platform improvements.
That Greyhound substitute from Raritan Valley was a wet lease - the bus is hired for the trip with a driver. Greyhound did that pretty often out of Port Authority in the 90s if the route was oversold. Very mixed results - sometimes a nice, new and clean bus with just a few overflow passengers and sometimes a packed creaking dinosaur with a broken toilet and a driver who hasn't been east of the Hudson since they were 12.
“That was a good review from MEEEEEEEEE”
The post-credits scene in this one are chef's kiss...the music of that sushi game goes as hard as Jackson's! I've told you you're the American Gordon Ramsay in the Rutgers shuttle video...and I see you've embraced it 😂. Blair saying "This is hard" while proceeding to keep chillaxing...priceless. WHAT A REDEMPTION ARC FOR MARC AND BLAIR! GG!! Marc put the arc in redemption arc! Newark Penn Station is nice and kudos to them for keeping their beautiful station as a hub with the different NJT bus lanes, Amtrak, NJ Transit commuter rail, Newark Light Rail, and Greyhound, but I definitely agree that it can be confusing. In my experience, the bus lanes at Journal Square are better to understand with where each bus is with information posted clearly. The rolling stock of the AirTrain that you were on at EWR were made by Von Roll and completed by AdTranz in 2000 (who acquired Von Roll's monorail division). AdTranz would be acquired by Bombardier in 2001 who in turn would be acquired by Alstom, so Alstom now operates the AirTrain Newark and the system will be replaced. The AirTrain JFK rolling stock on the other hand are Innovia Metro ART 200s, also operated by Alstom. The same ones on the Capital Airport Express in Beijing, the Vancouver SkyTrain, and the Kelana Jaya Line in Kuala Lumpur
The minute you started with “where did you come from and where are you going” I was like “I hope he turns this into a cotton eye Joe joke.” And you did! I was not disappointed. Lol

I'm almost certain I stole that bit from Jackson, but thank you 😂
as someone from jersey i legit let out a little sigh of frustration when you decided to take the PATH to newark and then one of the buses instead of the subway to penn and the NEC straight to EWR - the PATH is legit only useful if you're trying to save money on NJT costs or you're trying to get to/from any of the stops it services in between Newark and New York, like Jersey City and Hoboken. I don't know if you've ever considered a video of trying to ride ALL the lines in NJ Transit's trains or trying Newark's subway/light rail - it could be an interesting (exhausting) adventure!
Just remember Miles to NOT take the PATH Train on the weekends and the NJT #62 Bus when trying to to get Newark Airport but it makes a great tension building video!!😂😂🤣🤣

Miles knows this. The dude’s a transit connoisseur. Miles and Sym deliberately took the slowest way possible to Newark Airport so they could miss their flight. Had they caught the flight then they would’ve easily won. Miles wanted an airline team to get upset by a slower means of transportation since that would’ve made the race more interesting.

@Miles in Transit I am just making fun of the fact he thinks it's scripted. Though as someone who had to rely taking the PATH to work on weekends, it was so unreliable.
This cast hits its stride when everyone is tired and grumpy. We got a little made-up escalator drama, food critic criticism, nap discussions, a review of the monorail AND bonus homemade sandwich, and feuding temper tantrums. This was such a fun series!
I will never be jetlag less with the great race
Miles discovered the airlines “flat tire” rule. If you’re late for your flight most airlines will book you space available on the next flight going to your destination. Sometimes in multi airport cities they’ll move you onto a different airport. (JFK to LGA. Or SFO to OAK)
miles the food critic critic is the best we need more of him
I love the different approaches from each personality and how stress is handled!
25:50 we all want miles the film critic reviewing miles the food critic critic on the next video!!
Conclusions from this racing series: Aircraft are the quickest point to point, but they are probably more draining than it’s worth, especially trying to get to EWR from New York. At least for me, delays in an airport are basically guaranteed outside of the summer, and that brings me to the main point of reliability. Connecticut not withstanding, the NEC is far more reliable than anymore on this trip, even to DC. The grade separation and general ambivalence to weather makes this an excellent option compared to aircraft if you need to get there by a certain point. You’ll need to schedule more time, but if you bring stuff to the wire it will fall apart. As for buses, they are cheap and can take you to smaller towns, or run purely express. That’s about it for it’s advantages. It’s at the whims of the US interstate highway system and the grand devil itself, the hound, so if you don’t care about getting to where you’re going, take the bus. It’s a really sorry state of things, but express bus service should be focused around serving secondary cities and communities, not trying to beat the NEC at its own game

Agree. Amtrak is the overall winner in my book. Not the fastest, but at least less hassle than flying and more comfortable than busses.
@stephenlaarkamp7344
Жыл бұрын
@@trainsdestinations3960 More than that, Amtrak has the highest long-term potential to be faster, due to track upgrades increasing both top speeds and speeds on the slower parts of the corridor. Whether that be through track upgrades to the current corridor, new dedicated high speed rail sections of line (like those in the proposed North Atlantic Rail scheme), or a combo of both, it would dramatically improve speeds for train services. With those kinds of upgrades, the train would also be the fastest as well as being the best option from a user experience standpoint.

Miles is a master when it comes to organization. 95% of what happened in the race was planned ahead of time. That includes guys pretending not to know how to swipe a Metrocard and choosing an illogical way to travel to or from Manhattan and the airports. This is done for comedic effect and to ensure a desired outcome.
This should be an ongoing series where you all go to different cities and try different things. I would watch!!! You have the bestest friends ever and it’s refreshing and inspiring!!!

I flew on Delta from JFK to Logan in 2017. It was on one of their refurbished A319s on a summer day with AC blasting. One of the greatest flights of my life! It was also my only domestic flight in the US (I'm from Canada)
Raritan Valley does extra sections for Greyhound, so while they are not a "partner", they do "partner", so to speak, with Greyhound. Kind of like how Amtrak used to borrow MARC and NJT equipment for Thanksgiving extras.
13:53 Yes, Jacklyn, they do in fact normally do that. Empire Corridor trains always leave from track 5 (FUN FACT), and even after I figured this out finally, I _still_ have to try and get in line about 45 min early in order to not have to ask the dreaded question of "is this seat taken?"

The food service to your gate thing at Newark sucks. We waited over half an hour for breakfast when we were there. I went to the outlet in person after 20 but was told by the counter staff that they couldn't access the orders and we just had to wait. Ended up waiting to collar a delivery person and found it was one person for that outlet delivering across the whole terminal. They seemed confused and not in any sort of rush. Basically, go to an outlet in person unless you have a huge wait. Loving the series though. So many highlights, like the song at the end of Ep 3. Agree with the comments praising Marc and Blair. With that said $20 for a small cheese pizza........ HIGHWAY ROBBERY!

Northwest Indiana transplant to Philly here. I'm under the impression that the reason the gazillion cheap express services work here is that cities between DC and Boston are closer together than things are in the Urban Midwest. That's probably why there were no charter routes for folks in Indianapolis to buzz Blackhawks or Blue Jackets games
7:07 my first time on a NJT bus the driver got a little frustrated as I didn't know which way to hold my phone to scan the NJT app's QR code... I could feel for him as I was boarding at a multimodal point with small group of people both behind me and already on the bus the return leg was like the opposite: took 1 or 2 tries, boarded in middle of nowhere, and no one else was on the bus at that point 😅
I wanted to watch it nowwwwww

Yeah, it would seem so!
The logical thing for Miles and Sym to do would’ve been to take NJ Transit from New York Penn Station to Newark Airport station and then take the Newark Airport monorail. That’s a half hour ride. Miles, however, was afraid that if he did this then he and Sym would’ve caught their flight and won easily. The script necessitated that one of the airline teams had to get upset by a slower means of transportation. Hence, Miles and Sym took the slowest route possible to Newark Airport. That ensured that they would miss their flight and that the top three teams wouldn’t be airline teams. A few other things: I’ve used Greyhound to travel between NYC and DC many times. It has almost always been a miserable experience. Megabus is much better. Unfortunately, they no longer go to Boston. I don’t understand why guys bought overpriced food in the Amtrak cafe car. There are so many places to buy food within a five minute walk from Moynihan station, including a 7-Eleven, McDonalds, and a pizzeria where slices cost only $1.50. I like the chemistry between Blair and Marc. They make a good couple.

Speaking from experience, a Greyhound bus arriving late or being cancelled is plausible. With that said, a guy with your vast knowledge of mass transit would know that taking PATH to the 62 bus makes absolutely no sense.
