    Hard to be underrated with how much everyone loves them and how many they sell. I think 1/3 of the cars in my neighborhood are CX-5s. There’s a few of all their other models too.

    It is not underrated. They are popular, I see CX-5's and 50's everywhere. Miatas too, in fact. The design is more refined than most other brands at the same price point, yet the interior tech is relatively outdated and their cars are all slow / not powerful.for today's standards. It's a good brand in many ways but has some shortcomings. I think the public sentiment about it is accurate.

    My girl has a 2021 Mazda 3, that for the longest time, (non-car enthusiast) people kept asking what it was, especially when it was handling the biggest snowstorm in Lake Tahoe This thing has had 75k aggressive and casual city/highway miles since we got it and it has only ever had a key fob battery go dead. Not one issue and we even got rear ended twice with minimal damage and no issues still. All in all Im so proud of this company and all the jumps in reliability, quality, styling and power. My mom (who was brand stubborn with Mercedez) has even switched over to Mazda CX-50 Meridian Edition and even hers is running smooth even tho it is a first year model.

I bought a new 2024 Turbo P+ last December and its been a great car so far. I love to drive it, love the way the outside looks and I love the interior. The torque the turbo model has is a lot of fun. I broke down and bought a 2023 AWD Carbon Edition, gray with the maroon seats although I couldn't necessarily afford it. It seduced me, plain and simple. What a great car, and I can't imagine needing a turbo because 191 hp for a car that barely weighs 3,000 lbs is PLENTY of power in the sport mode. I love the understated dash that doesn't look like a video game. I should add the 6-speed automatic never leaves me wishing for a manual. It's that good.

Swapped the rims for Enkei Kojins, painted the roof black and tinted all windows along with reverse lights in the centre. Between all the cars I've owned, including much more expensive exotics, I've yet to receive as many compliments from strangers. Between the styling, handling, and the fact that Mazda is one of the last manufacturers ran by engineers, its by far the best in class.

    I dont think it will come to Australia! I also drive a RHD car on the left side of the road and I think thats the problem. RHD markets dont even account for 40% of the global car market and top spec hatchbacks are more expensive to produce, so it makes sense that they would sell the more expensive hatchbacks in a larger market to increase their sales than taking a risk in a smaller market. In terms of Mazda, we only get top spec RHD hatchbacks if they are also sold in Japan, if not, the probability of them being sold outside Japan is very slim.

    Gorgeous and overall well made. It’s very quiet inside. The materials are quality. The major issue is the C-pillar and the blind spot it creates for the driver. That panel from the rear door to hatch is huge, the rear passenger windows need to be bigger, the pillar / body panel needs to be smaller, and that panel is very flexible. I leaned against it and it popped in. Luckily it popped back out. But, I can say that would never happen in my Mercedes.

  • @mattb9748

    @mattb9748

    Quality materials except for the piano black trim scratches easily and also a common complaint is the instrument cluster cover also is too soft and scratches too easily. I agree on the flexing C-pillar too....opening the fuel door makes the pillar slightly flex. It's very off-putting, but it's also just sheet metal and not the true structure of the car and these are as safe and strong as anything in a crash. The blind spot is bad, but on the other hand the driver assistance aids and rear camera are effective enough that I find I don't often look over my shoulder either anyway. I also came from years of driving VW Golfs that also had wide C-pillars so I guess I'm used to not having a panoramic view to the rear sides.

    We have driven different Mazda cars from 2008 (Mazda 3) until our CX-8 from 2019. I really like their design philosophy and that they think out of the box. I very like the Mazda 3, also as a sedan. Unfortunately they are very late (too late?) into hybrids and EVs. Here in Thailand Mazda’s sales have dropped significantly because they didn’t introduce new models. The current CX-5 is still the same car as from 2017. They even didn’t change the interior as in other markets. My Mazda dealer since 2008 has abandoned the brand and sells now EVs.

    I'm curious to hear your thoughts on the Zeekr 001. EV shooting brake. Still has some physical controls. 789 hp. Can be had with an LFP battery that can charger 10-80 in 11 minutes at nearly 500 kw. and this thing is like 45k for the top trim in China. Their market is insane. looks to have some degree of personality in its styling too. not just flat surfaces. if this thing came to the US and was priced the same (pipe dream, I know), i'd jump in a heart beat

    The base model is a couple hundred bucks cheaper! Prices were raised on all other models. Primarily the hatches. . Especially the premium turbo was raised $700 bucks!! Ridiculous! The sedan is cheaper because it is built in Mexico, not Japan like the hatch! It's long past due for a redesign too! Especially the infotainment!

    My wife has the top of the line CX5, it’s nice but the infotainment system to me is not intuitive and there’s too much piano black plastic making the interior look dirty. The Bose speakers are good. The exterior is style is very agreeable. The only issue I have with the HB is the rear, it’s a bit bulbous to me and there are big blind spots. I liked the prior design rear more.

    Agreed. Save the manuals! I really like this car, especially the NA hatchback with the manual. However, I think it is a little overpriced, and I really hate that it has a torsion beam rear suspension. Also, why is it more expensive than the sedan? Nevertheless, I am considering upgrading my daily driver next year, and the Mazda 3 hatch is on my short list.

    I don't know about the US but all the cars from Mazda are built in Japan for Europe so I'd guess the reason for the price drop is the weakness of the yen which is great for the end buyer outside of Japan, you can have a fantastic well built car cheap that is also very premium.
