Thank you so much for this amazingly beautiful and educational film! I have fond memories of bringing my sister back to Seattle from college in Minnesota back in 1978. She said “can we come home through Canada?” I was only 14 but have good memories of seeing the amazing Canadian Rockies, frozen Lake Louise and the Banff hotel. And riding the scary steep gondola! 😊

Erik, I'm glad this is preserved. Thank you. We had it on disc and it nearly blew up in our player. We love this show so much that we tried to replace it. I went on eBay and they were charging oppressive prices for just the disc. PBS didn't ask for that much for the whole package when it first aired. I appreciate you putting it up. I watch it a lot. Kind of a relaxer.

Thanks and I am glad someone else enjoys it. My wife loved it when she first saw the program and had been looking for it since. I figured getting my ebay-purchased copy up would save someone else the trouble. I guess I was correct--more than a thousand views. All props of course to the original producers.

This is a wonderful look back at the history of the great Canadian railway lodges. (Enter compliment sandwich)…but it makes me think the Canadian Rockies are the little brother/sister of the Swiss alps (yes I’ve been). Why not just go to Switzerland? That said, Jasper and Banff are two of the most breathtaking geographies and we should all be thankful for the preservation efforts of Parks Canada.

Unfortunately, with global warming and recession of the glaciers, the terrain where Abbot was located was becoming increasingly unstable and the decision was made by Parks Canada that the risk to the hut was too great and the hut would need to be removed. This was done late spring, early summer 2023.

"With the the wealthiest people in the world" the announcer states in the beginning of the video. At the 4:13 minute mark, where the filthy rich are being served their cuisine, I noticed something and had to go back and rewatch it. On the right forefront, is a single woman being served by the waiter. She never looks up from her plate to engage the waiter or thank him. The 4:13 minute shows her with head down and eyes slyly looking to her left, watching him out of the corner of her eye, as he finishes serving her. He stands there waiting for a second, for her response, any indication, that she has been kindly served or if she needs anything else. But instead of engaging, she reverts her eyes back down to completely ignore him. She was being served by a "peasant" who didn't even deserve a glance.
