I have resided in Great Falls Virginia for 14 years so far and still love here today!! The schools here are among the best in the nation! As a result of the countryside vibes, crime rarely happens here, making Great Falls the safest place in NoVa. The area in and around Great Falls is a tourist’s playground because we are only 20-25 minutes the nation’s capital! Nike Pike is an awesome recreational area located along VA-7 (Leesburg Pike) where family and friends can truly enjoy playing sports with each other. As a result of the countryside vibe, Great Falls is not a walkable town and you need a car to run your daily errands. The best parts of town are the Village Center and Great Falls Park, where you the images of the waterfall are forever in your mind! In the village center, we have plenty of diners, cafés, and shops!!! I have lived in Great Falls, Virginia since July 2nd, 2007, in the same house which is located 3.80 miles from Great Falls Park and is rarely (if ever) visit Great Falls Park. The last time I was in GFP was March 2020, before that, Dec 2019, and before THAT, August 2009. I’ve lived just 30 minutes from Downtown DC since I was born in January 2006 and I’m only in DC once a year. I’ve only been to 4 or 5 of the 80 museums DC offers. I also never participate in Community Events, hosted by Celebrate Great Falls ®, therefore I’m an introvert, but for as long I keep living in Great Falls, I’ll do the best I can to get involved in the community, participating in as many events as I possibly can, before I relocate somewhere else, which will never happen because I want to live in Great Falls, Virginia for the rest of my life!!!!

Most of the houses in GF don’t have county water and sewer. You need a well and septic tank. That a bummer for someone paying more than a mil to live there.

Can also be an opportunity. Find a home on a grandfathered-in 1 acre lot which can perk for "only" 4 bedrooms and suddenly you won't be bidding against those wishing to build a chateau there. And the water is good, cold clear and fresh even unfiltered. None of that ultra-chlorinated river water!

Random but it you were trying to get the most for less living in northern va what area would you recommend going to… I hear Woodbridge is good bang for buck

Anywhere in Prince William County(Woodbridge included) will give you some good bang for your buck.

Do people in Northern Virginia actually call it NoVa? Or would people give me dirty looks if I referred to Northern Virginia as Nova?

I’ve never called it NOVA and I grew up here. NOVA is the community college in this area. It sounds like one of those real estate developer hype terms that people use to try to drum up excitement in an area.

@@trademisconception9816 Interesting. I wondered if it made someone look like a total outsider if they said it. (which.. I am) but if you've ever met someone from San Francisco and they say they're from "San Fran" then you know for sure they aren't actually from there 😁 thanks for the prospective.

@@Reallifecleanliving no problem. I’ve always wondered about that San Fran moniker. It makes sense that moniker has the same sorta usage that NOVA has.

If I had the budget I could 100% live in Great Falls

Hey, I have a few questions. I’m half Chinese and look really Chinese and planning to move there. Is it racist? Will I be able to fit in and make friends with good, non-racist people? Are there Chinese and Asian restaurants/shops?

We have a lot Asian people here and H mart, lotto supermarket, ranch 99. Very nice place!

22 best place to raise a family in Virginia, sounds like it is not a very good place to raise a family. I'd expect properties of this size and average house hold incomes on this scale, to place Great Falls in the top three. Why so low?

Great question. When Niche.com makes a best places to live list, they 100% use cost of living as a big part of there rankings. Since Great Falls is the most expensive place to live in the whole state of Virginia and that only the top 5% of income earners can actually afford to live there. That drops it on Niche.coms list.

I’ve lived in the DC Metro area for 60+ years and here’s the only two things you need to know about Great Falls Va. or Md. 1. You better have the finances for double the $ of your mortgage. 2. You better be a screaming Liberal Democrat.

I think you are confusing Great Falls and McLean about party affiliation. Great Falls is definitely Republican. Just look on the county website for past election results. The polling stations are designated GF and Dranesville. The dividing line for the polling stations is Walker Rd which is in the heart of GF. Voters who live to the East go the the GF polling station and to the west of Walker go to Dranesville polling station (in the Methodist Church on GT Pike). A few years ago there was a democratic primary election and I went to vote early because I had to go to work early that day (the polls open at 6am). I was first in line when the polls opened and while I was voting 2 more folks showed up to vote. As I was leaving I told the poll workers that "the 3 democrats in GF just voted so you can now close the polls and all go home!!" They all just about fell over laughing because they all knew that this was pretty accurate.
