    Agree with the Manix 2. Mine is modded exactly like your titanium version. I have collected and used for several decades. A consequence of aging is my hands have lost some dexterity and have "stiffened" up. Thin handled knives like the BM 940 have become harder to hold. Although I've had "better" and more costly knives, the Manix 2 ergos suit me best at this stage of life. My back up/second is the full size Ritter RSK. Really enjoy your channel and presentations!

    I absolutely love this video idea! For me, I went with the Spyderco Sage 5 LW in CPM-M4. Spyderco does good heat treats on all their different blades, their blade geometry and handle ergos are always decent. The Sage 5 LW has the bushing and the compression lock so it's very smooth as well as good for gritty environments. It's the perfect knife of you don't mind the aesthetics. The ergos really make up for the funny green handle imo. I wanted to make a knife review channel, but I pretty much aced it with this one.

    Corrosion fussiness is the one thing holding me back from getting down with some M4, CruWear, 3V, etc. I don't mind a patina but how easily does M4 go from a patina to rust? Is it the kind of thing simply keeping it dry would prevent? Would heavy humidity be a rust concern if it's dried before being put away? A natural patina is fine and can give the piece extra character but rust is just not something I want to deal with. I have a BHQ exclusive tanto PM2 in M4, bathed in EDCi that just sits in it's box, never been used. It saddens me as I use every knife I own except for that one.

    Oh yeah. The knife market for collectors and enthusiasts is a whole different world from ten years ago, we're awash in knives that would have all been knife of the year contenders in their respective price points and even beyond. Imagine getting a knife like Civivi's Pintail or Appalachian Drifter II for eighty bucks five years ago. You couldn't find a reputable manufacturer offering anything in S35VN or a close equivalent for under $130, and if you did, it was going to wear FRN clothes.

    I’d go Button-Lock Elementum in the Pole Position especially because any “one-knifer” is budget conscious. It’s thin in the pocket, affordable, gentlemanly and on-and-on. I can’t keep it out of my pocket. I also like the Spidie-Chef about where you positioned it because of excessive cost. I’m a TS-129 fan-boy but it just yields to my pocket from the above. Great job!!!

    Really great list, and it all boils down to what you use your knives for. If you need something slicey, robust, gent, indestructible, work, premium etc.. my goto recommendation if someone needs a good work knife is Cold Steel of some sort not the most fidgety but reliable and able to tackle any job. For a slicer I always go Civivi in 14C28N steel. For USA made I go with Hogue amazing price and materials along solid construction. There are so many knife companies out there selling amazing knives it's almost impossible to select just one (I carry around 5 or 6 blades on me at all times including multi-tools lol). Thanks for the great vid Jerad and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable

Kind of a weird reason I know, but when it gets down to it I'm not afraid to bugger it up like I am the knives I really like. 😆 It absolutely does have great ergonomics and a great blade, though.

    If you’re not limited by blade size, the Spyderco Kapara... covers everything from light to medium duty plus food prep. Over time my preference has evolved towards sheep’s foot blades with good knuckle clearance (but generally dislike trailing points like the SpydieChef or ZT0460, despite the knuckle clearance). The Bugout is a staple too.

    Great picks. I'd add the Spyderco Shaman to that list. Though it has a beefy blade stock, the tall flat grind compensates some making it a better slicer than I thought it might be. It leans well into the harder use roles easily enough when called on.

  • @gpearce11
    @gpearce112 жыл бұрын

    Great list. I think there's a definite point to a list like this, because if you can only afford to splurge on one good knife, the everyday EDC is the one you want (then getting budget alternatives for the less used knives; e.g. beater or gent carry). After all, to use your kitchen knife example, if there's one or two knives that you use more than any others (e.g. 8in chefs knife or 5in utility knife) that's the one you spend extra for, while saving on the lesser used knives.

It's in s35vn which is possibly the most well rounded blade steel, it's a super durable knife, with ultra strong lock up and will do pretty much anything you need a folder to do. Both for edc, and life or death situations. You can do serious cutting with it, you can defend your life with it, use it for light survival tasks, food prep, and the ergonomics are perfect.

    A couple I would add to this list: 1. Hogue Ritter RSK, Mini RSK, & Hogue Deka - 20CV super steel available in a variety of beautiful G-mascus colors, with amazing construction & beefiy, reliable Wolff Wireform springs, for around $150. Deka is also available in a MagnaCut steel variant with FRN scales for only around $130. All three models have, hands down, some of the best materials & construction for the money in the entire knife world. 2. Benchmade 940 - For all the same reasons as you mentioned the Bugout, plus great blade length for its light weight; also standard in great S30V steel 3. Spyderco Smock - Multiple deployment methods in quality S30V steel with a strong lock, sturdy construction, & easy disengagement using the button lock 4. Civivi Conspirator & Altus - One larger flipper, one smaller thumbstud-er, both smooth & strong button locks in solid Nitro-V steel for around only $75 5. Civivi Riffle - 14C28N steel & multiple deployment options with nice micarta for $55 6. Civivi Baklash - Hollow grind with extremely comfortable forward choil in D2 & smooth action for only $42 7. CJRB Feldspar - D2 or RMP9 powder steel & great action for around $35 8. Sitivien ST126 for the same reasons as the Riffle, but with D2 steel heat treated very well for such a low price at about $28 9. QSP Parrot - D2 steel & glassy washer action; great if you're looking for a smaller one & done EDC, for only around $25 Great, informative video as always, my friend! :o)

    Thanks for the analysys and comparation Jerad. I don't know about you, but I don't like to beat my more expensive blades so I carry a beater almost every day, so according to the task I choose a blade that I can beat upon and I my common election is the Spyder Tenacious, cause it's not expensive and the edge last more than I thought without having to sharp it, I just strop it with the green paste a couple of times and it back to the work. That’s my opinión…

    I would say if the blade had better geometry then yes, but as is I'd say no because as a one knife is needs to be able to be sharpened over and over without sacrifice of the blade geometry, and that one already starts off super thick behind the edge, it's the reason so many people are sending theirs in to be regrouped thinner, it's still a great edc knife especially after a regrind

    The scales on that Delica are beautiful! Did you patina them yourself (if so, how do you do it?), or did they come that way? I've always liked the look of the Gayle Bradley, but have wondered about the liner lock access. I have a Bob Terzoula Starmate 2 from Spyderco. The blade profile is very similar, though I'm not sure if the grinds are different. The Terzoula has a saber grind, and that Bradley looks like it might be a hollow grind. 🤷‍♂️

  • @NeevesKnives

    Yes and no, so yes you can increase it a little by adding strength to the lockbar pressure, but in return it would make the knife less smooth and could have a reverse effect since it's on washers, also the detent is not very big so it's not something I'd recommend on this particular model, you can still flick it the way it is, imo the biggest issue is they come with horrible lockbar access, I cut mine back so I could easily access it better
