When you see a band with a horn section you’d better stop and listen! Very cool, Levon and guys would be proud
Marvin Gaye sang it first. This is great take on the arrangement by the Band!
Loved this NO BUTS. levon used to sing this one WITH LOTS of balls. You guys played it with LOTS OF BALLS as well
Sweet!! Really nice interpretation of this tune. Cool horn arrangements. Nice drumming. Nice vocals. Love it. Thanks for the upload.
Without a doubt, the most two below G vid on KZread

This is great, all around. Arrangement, mix, performance...top shelf!
Well done! I just watched a clip of Robbie showing this riff and you do him proud. Now, can you show ME? hahahahahahah.

Its got the Grit!
im pretty honelty awfuly darn picky about my THE band covers yall done purty durn good jobs thanks sirs madames bravo
Great cover. Really hard to sing the words to this song like the Band did you could really hear there heartache and soul when they sang it. That's really the only thing missing here. Good job guys!
Sending the applause from Llanfair Road!
Bravo!
Great job
After reading some of the comments I can see some people may have never picked up an instrument and tried it. You guys do a great job on a very tricky song! Let's be realistic, nobody's going to do it like The Band. Awesome job! The horns real make me his song too.

Oh and by the way all you ripping the lead vocal , what do you want? For him to imitate Levon! Dude you sound great! Nice job . Good harmonies too!

I’m thinking if you go this far into recreating the sound and ball the instruments in the Band, maybe you could’ve found a singer that sounds more like the Band. But with that said I would gladly spend money to go see these guys in concert

I wanted him to recreate Levon...
Great song choice. Way to make it your own.
Right on, nice job. One of my fav' tunes from The Band and you guys covered it very well.
Serious Talent!
I'm in, bought the album
Very good job at this song. I'm glad you went more towards the live version from Rock of Ages. It's probably The Band's best version.
Very well done ❣️
This is a nightmare of a song to play i would be so bold as to say no one but Levon and Rick would get that original groove , i love this version and it is played with justice and the best cover i have heard , can the drummer tell me how he broke the feel down and is it easier to go for straight 4s on hh opposed to double time , iam writing the charts for a show any info on the drumming on this would be great .... Thanks

Thank you so so much, it sure means a lot to hear that. As a drummer, Levon is certainly amongst my all time heros. I'll shoot you a private message to discuss the "drummy" stuff further.

Ummm wow!!
wow, it's nice to hear r manuel's piano part! but i miss robbie robertson's guitar part on this, which is a shame, because i think the horn arrangement was written *against* it, rhythmically, and maybe harmonically too (he's playing some odd G7 voicing - G13? - while the horns play C).
This is a cover of a cover. If you all weren't aware, and it seems you aren't. Marvin Gaye was the original artist on this song.

I am aware.
This is a very good cover - although a little too fast - and would have liked to have heard a little more Levon Helm soul. Nonetheless, it was great effort with a lot of musical talent.
White boys with brown hearts. Lovely, spicy, awesomeness.
Do you guys tour? Couldn't find anything on your website?

It’s great But go see Chris Robinson sing it
I was just about ready to leave you all a really snide comment, but then I went "Shit, Don`t do it>"
I read down a bit....Just to make sure someone didn't indicate the same thing. BTW this singer sounds about as much like Lowell George as no one.
It's definitely an interesting cover, but I feel some of the looseness and chaotic vibe is lost. Of course, the most famous recording of this song was recorded drunkenly at 5 in the morning, so that might have something to do with it ;)
great musicians but the lead vocal is drowned out
Too clean. Not enough funk. I enjoyed tho. Just need more dirty
I'm sorry. I just can't listen to any cover of this song because no cover measures up. And that includes The Band. Mad respect for Levon Helm but he can't do justice to anything originally recorded by Marvin Gaye.
Soft ass version. Def not enough soul and grit. Drums aren't right and neither are the opening basslines. I don't think this version does it justice. Dude doesn't have a bad voice but it's just not right for this song. Levon sings this shit w/ tenacity like he was on a mission. This dude sounds like hes trying to do a pop version of it.
Love everything except the vocals
Can't agree that this is a good cover. Vocals lack soul entirely. Drum sound completely wrong. Too fast. Sounds like I'm at J. Crew trying on polos.

Levon Helm was the drummer and lead vocal on this when The Band covered the original by Marvin Gaye, so it's gonna be hard to recapture that tempo with a cover...unless you find a lead who drums!!!
What is the point of this? It's just a Band imitation. The Band's version of a Marvin Gaye song does not sound like a Marvin Gaye imitation. If you are doing a cover version, make it worth listening to.

To try to sound like the band makes perfect sense to me
This is awful
