One of the most heartbreaking things about this pandemic is that we are losing so many elderly folks. There is SO much we can learn from them! They have so many stories to tell and much knowledge to pass on. Some younger people might be all "Meh, who cares?" about this, but the information Clara has shared with us could be a potential lifesaver for us in the future. It's priceless. SHE was priceless. I wish food network had someone with History on there. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy some of the chefs but this sweet lady is giving not only love, good food, a sweet laugh but also wisdom with humor. She defiantly needed no fancy hype, bells or whistles like today's gang. Just straight up home cooking and budgeting sense taught during the time.

I completely agree. I love food network don't get me wrong but in never felt the want to binge watch any if them cook like I have with this amazing woman . They need more like her . Doesn't have to be so fancy and up tight all the time . The old shows used to actually teach you how to cook and had personality to them . Now it's just some new random person telling you what they are making in 10 seconds or less it feels.

My parents went through the depression. My mom would reuse foil after washing it. Apples were a mainstay in our home with oranges in the fall. We picked our own strawberries and mom made jam. I only thought I was poor. Was I mistaken. I bought some paper towels for mom when they came out. She had the original roll when she died in 1980. We used cloth towels and wash clothes not sponges. What a learning experience I had. On Wednesday I'll be 65 and still use cloth towels in the kitchen and will do apples again. Best times of my life.

See Canon I'm not exactly poor but I too don't use paper towels, only newspaper if I need to clean up grease or put down spoons on the stove. I also reuse aluminum and my one of my sons won't use disposables for parties, only china and silverware, says his guests even serve themselves what they'll eat without wasting food. What my family is is environmentally conscious. We HATE waste and pollution. During the GF it might've been poverty that made folks limit what they used, now some of us do it to conserve the planet. Peace to you!!!

@@samuelaurora3632 This may be my own sense of innocence speaking here, but it seems they're trying to make the best of a bad situation. Much like you are with looking up great depression recipes. I still use my great gran's recipes when times are tough. or even when they're not and i just miss her. There are still starving children, there's just more people who grew up as those starving children to be able to and want to make a difference. Trust me. in my area 1 in 9 kids are starving or undernourished, and 2/9 are malnourished. Recently the state (in my area) mandated that all student school lunches be free. It's literally the main way I was fed on school days. (early 90's) they didn't have the summer lunch programs. I was lucky if we got to buy groceries once a month between two houses. (grans and my father's.) When my brother had to go to summer school I went to the advanced learning program at the school library and the school fed us because we couldn't bring our own lunches.

Angel Dark thank you for some kind of elaboration. The irony is that I would bet the bottom dollar against the two previous commenters that I have struggled financially, especially physically, more than they would give credit to. Yes maybe they were making the best of things. On the contrary, I was actually relating. There was no need for anyone to act high and mighty, like the second one did haha. If it helps the candle burn a little brighter then oh well, more power to everyone. I appreciate your opening, and your relation will not be forgotten. Perhaps your past stories will swim through my head tonight during meditation. May I ask which area you are from?

I just discovered this lady & her channel 2 days ago. What a wonderful & beautiful legacy her & her grandson have left for their family & the world... This lady reminds me of my Mom & her sister, my "Cioci" ("Aunt" in Polish) in the way she cooks things, shows you how to cook, & tells stories as to how it came to be... Clara actually looks a lot like how I would imagine my Mom would look today if she made it into her 90's in good health - eventhough my Mom was the child of Polish immigrants born in Brooklyn (vice Clara, who I understand was of Sicilian immigrant parents, born in Illinois). My Mom passed away after terrible debilitating illness of about 12 years @ the age of 67 in 1997 - & Cioco passed away about 6 years later, right after her 90th birthday. My Mom's name was Irena & her sister was Stella. -So, needless to say, these videos are precious to me. Thank you again to Clara's grandson for sharing her with the world ❤
