Greasin' & Jackin'- My experience trying to Jack up my Ember RV! Soon we will tackle bearing repack

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

REMEMBER... "Get Busy Living" (and get busy greasing!)
We decided to try removing a tire and greasing the hubs. It turns out we DID NOT do it the way Lippert instructed us.... because the laws of physics said "No Way!"

Joe, we always jack under the axle. On a regular axle put the jack close to the wheel, not 2 ft away from wheel. If the jack is to far from the wheel it may bend the axle in the center.

Spin the tire as you add grease to the hub. Also you should check your brake linings. There are rubber caps on inside of brake flange, maybe you can see your brake shoes lining. Or you have to remove axle hub nut. Always use a hand torque wrench to tighten your lug nuts. Check the lug nuts torque after every few hundred kilometers.

Thanks Joe! I think the “dust cover” is more an excess grease catcher. So it doesn’t make a mess. But greasing the hubs is the easiest way to protect your axles.

Great video Jo & Joe! Now show us the real challenge of changing a trailer tire on the side of the highway, in the dark, raining like hell, wind clipping about 40, dogs barking, and losing a lug nut!

The majority of people don't know how to jack up a vehicle of any kind so the manufacturer says to use the frame to avoid suspension damage. Before you even got the tire off the ground you were 100 feet up on a very unstable jack . You have the right jack and did fine with your wood blocks but imagine being on the side of the highway with trucks whizing by just a few feet from you, and only soft slippery ground to work on the tire. I'm guessing you have a spirit level so I recommend finding a spot on the suspension away from the wheel so it doesn't get in your way and when you jack it up the suspension doesn't move in any direction sideways to the jack. Then mark that spot with a bit of spray paint so if ever you have to do it again there's no guessing. With all Jack's there is inherent danger and the higher you go the more dangerous it gets.

from my experience is if you are using a bottle type or a 4-wheel Jack. on any type of surface.except concrete always Carrie a bottom base plate for under the two front wheels. or bottom of the bottle jack. this prevents base bottom settling.especialy asphalt when very warm out side.

Dexter has a very good KZread video on how to use the EZ lube system. Spinning the wheel as you pump the grease gun is key.

Good job now you know how to. lol. Now only thing move the jack stand close to the jack. Cause if trailer fall it will split the boards. Very good video gang well done. It you give it 6-8 shots of grease you be ok if you roll the tire when you do it then the grease will push old stuff out. Now I want a video of them tire stops that are by the tire they look interesting. Awesome video we enjoyed it. Now go get some waffles lol 🛠️🇨🇦🛠️🇨🇦

Bearing Buddies are not the same equipment as “EZ-Lube” spindles.

Oh man I was thinking so not safe and why are you not jacking under the axle … also I believe the very early models did not have the removable cap , my 22 Rol did not but my 23 190 does …. Great video

Yeah I saw the cutaway diagram in the instructions but there is a lot of controversy where people swear these are bad to use.

My cargo trailer has tandem Dexter axles with EZ-lube spindles. At an estimated 35,000km I did the grease service as per Dexter’s instructions. All bearings were in adjustment, old grease not to scary looking, all good. I picked a warm day, and towed the trailer a few km to warm the hubs, and put the new grease tubes out in the sun to warm them up. These spindles are not the same as Bearing Buddy hub caps which are found on boat trailers. They are designed to keep cold water from being drawn into a warm hub when you back into the launch.

Just noticed that the sidewall of the second tyre is bulging too, you might want to change that...

There is a brown mark on the outside of the tire where I rubbed tire on some sorta curb but I didn’t see a bulge. I’ll look again today.

@@RVingWithJoe In Oregon, we refer to a brown mark as a 'skid'. Used in a sentence: * "Joe, as you were walking away, did I notice your skids?"

NEVER USE EZ LUBE!!!!....at some point you will blow the seal and put grease all over the brakes. Seen it many time over the years

jack on the u bolts. if they can support the axle they will support a jack.. I think lippert is concerned that some brain dead person will put the jack in the middle of of the axle.
