Thank you for your info. I learned about rotational grazing from Joel Salatin at Homestead Conference. I have 3-acres in high desert of So California (Zone 8b) with sanding soil. My plan next spring is to a meat cow but like it to graze so setting up so area for grass. I contacted Hoss Seeds they suggested Brown Top millet to get soil healthy then will sow some mixes for cattle to graze. Trying yo get enough so not to buy lot of hay and grain. Only to supplement during winter.

I've had a lot of trouble getting chicory established as well. But my cows sure love what did survive.

Nice to see the cows and the wide open fields that goes for miles and miles and miles. The word on spider mites seems to correlate to high nitrate concentrations in the plant. Dr. Dykstra has a video where he discusses it. Like when nitrogen is over applied, the plant takes up too much nitrate and the spider mites thrive on plants with high nitrate concentrations. With normal nitrate levels in the plant, the spider mites perish. So perhaps it is due to an over application of ammonia or urea in certain spots force feeding the plant.

Hi good video. Is there regrowth on the oats after the trampling? Could you get a second grazing is more my question.

they won’t eat it. They will scavenge for fresh regrowth on other plants. If you hit it early enough you can regraze it. About 1/2 the field we will graze again. The stuff that there is great cover I’ll leave

I was wondering if I fertilize before I plant a cover crop between my rows of corn if I will get back that fertilizer plus more the following year after it's broken down ? I really like tillage radishes as a cover crop. I figure something that stinks like that after they are killed back by a hard freeze has to be doing something good for the soil lol . Thanks for sharing !

Yeah man. When are you planting? I typically don’t focus on fixing nitrogen with cover crops as my as tying to fix the nitrogen cycle in my system. We have a lot of N tied up in our soils so the key is unlocking them. We are Interseeding Buckwheat Cowpeas Clover Dicon Radishes African cabbage Flax Forage milo. What else are you doing with the radishes and what stage will the corn be in

@@youngredangus6041 I was waiting until after the Summer Solstice to plant because the radish can bolt and go to seed and not get huge if planted before then . I want to keep my rows clean until after my corn is at least waist high by then the corn will out compete anything growing in the rows . I'm planting all kinds of stuff with tillage radish between the rows . All kinds of different beans , clover Korean Lespedeza , turnips ,rye , old veggie seeds and weeds that come up lol
