Hey guys! I'm now officially affiliated with Grayl! I'm excited because I truly believe in their products, and I plan to only become affiliated with companies that I trust/believe in (I've already turned down a few offers from other companies). Check my description to use my person affiliate link if you want a grayl, or check out my other affiliates! 👊
You did a brilliant review. Many thanks as I hadn’t heard of this new Grayl product yet! As always, I appreciate you ♥️

Grayl now makes this in the geopress 24 oz size for $20 more. That's almost 50% larger capacity.

Best use a milbank bag to prefilter out the sediment from some sources or your filter could plug up after a couple or so of pushes.

Great review, mine should arrive next week, one lingering issue I have in my mind is using the sleeve as a drinking vessel or for cooking. You essentially have to use the water you just filtered to clean it and boil off to be safe to use it to drink or cook from. I contacted grayl and they confirmed this is the case. So I guess I’ll need to carry an additional bottle to decant water into if I plan to cook or drink from the outer sleeve/cup. Do you have any advice as an experienced owner of grayl products of how to make this process easier / better etc?
@Crafty.Veteran.Survival

Yea you could have an extra bottle/metal container if you wanted to supplement. But depending on the water source, you could go without filtering completely for cooking/drinking out of the outer cup. If the water is from a clear running source, and you pre-filter with a Milbank bag (which I recommend, those things are great), then boiling is generally fine to drink/cook with. Survivalist/bushcrafters do it all the time, I have too at my Survival courses. But some people like the extra peace of mind of boiling+filtering, so both it fine too. You have more options with this set up, which is great, but I do recommend having a second metal bottle/container in general. Check out Milbank bags, not expensive, great pre-filters to use to filter/prevent dirt, sediment, sticks, bugs etc.
Hello! Great review but I have a question, does the titanium container make the bottle a thermos? Thank you 😉
@Crafty.Veteran.Survival

Unfortunately I don't think it does, at least not to the effects of a true thermos bottle (lacks the insulated/vacuum layer).

I was wondering if you have had any problems with dinging it up with dents or bending it in any way? Thanks for the review!!🤠

@@Crafty.Veteran.Survivalthanks for the speedy response.
One thing I've been trying to find regarding these filters... how hard is it to actually filter? Many of the videos or photos show the person using it using both hands and what looks like a fair bit of body weight to press. Is this something that would work well in a canoe or kayak in the middle of a lake (ie: press between 2 hands) or is considerable force required?
@Crafty.Veteran.Survival
Жыл бұрын
It does take a decent amount of force to filter, so using your body weight just makes it easier. The more full the bottle it is, the more force required to press, but the slower press time is actually better for the filter to do it's work (if it's filtering too fast after many cycles/after a few years, then that means the filter may start to lose its effectiveness). Anyways, I havent personally tried it in a kayak/canoe, although I'd be willing to bet that it's doable (but like I said before, might not be AS EASY as if you were on land, using your body weight to assist with the downward pressure).

@Crafty Veteran thanks for responding. I bought the Grayl with the intent of having on the go water when camping in the Boundary Waters in mn. I have a lifestraw bottle that I used for the last trip, however this is only good for drinking out of the bottle. My gravity filter doesn't lend itself to be any good "on the go", but there is no way to use the lifestraw bottle with water additives to address taste. I didn't want to test it too early and ruin the filter for camping. Supposedly you get the best water away from shore, so being able to filter water into clean water containers before getting to camp would be great.
i wish they made one where they can place cotton balls within the filter so u dont need to buy a new filter u just replace the stuffing instead if the who plastic bottom

How many litres can this filter before its useless? And more importantly, how do you know when the filter is at the end of its life and to stop using it?
@Crafty.Veteran.Survival

It can filter filter 150L/40 Gals of water/300 presses per filter (and then you can replace the filter when you need to). So you could either keep track of your presses, or also pay attention to the press time (it takes 10 sec to filter normally, once it takes 25 or more seconds to press, then it's time to replace your filter). Extra/non-used cartridges have a 10 year shelf life.

@@Crafty.Veteran.Survival thank you for your swift reply. I use an aqua Mira and two water bags, one dirty and one clean. Very very compact and will filter 1500 litres of water. When it's dead, it simply will not work. But, it's time consuming. I'm looking at this because I like the idea of it being a water bottle in a boiling pot. It's like my Crusader but only the water bottle is a filter. I love that about it. I'm not keen on the quantity it filtrates. I thought that would have been much higher tbh. However, I guess running absolutely filthy pond water, and I mean filthy, through some other filtration first, then the Grayl, will prolong the filter life. Mmmm. Things to think about here. Thank you for your video. I'm 95% sold though. Why they didn't make this a straight litre bottle Ive no idea. I'm just on the fence about the end of life thing. If they say 25 seconds and it's dead, I'd be throwing it away at 20. I just find that slightly 'chancey' and non specific for something your life depends on. It would be better if there was some kind of colour change tab or Indicator telling you stop. I'd feel much safer about it then. Anyways, thank you for your time, appreciate it mate.

@KittchenSink For sure! I feel yea, it is a nifty filter for the titanium like you said. Being able to boil water or cook meat in a pinch is pretty awesome. And yes you could use a pre-filter to help lengthen the filter life (I use Milbank bags). Best of luck on your journey 👊

💭🧐...So the cup is contaminated after filtering the bad h20, & then you have to pour the clean h20 back into the dirty cup & waste fuel boiling the hell out of it to make it safe.👎 The Geopress makes more sence,..with an added pot.
@Crafty.Veteran.Survival
7 ай бұрын
Yea with that logic it wouldn't make much sense. Who said you had to pour the clean h20 back into the dirty cup? I use it like a regular Grayl, with the peace of mind knowing that if I needed to boil/cook in a pinch, I could. It's an all-in-one portable titanium water filter bottle. Different niche than the regular grayl. But if you want to go the geopress route, they do have the outer stainless steel cup that pairs with it (as seen in this video)
