My autistic 4 year old son is obsessed with Gravitrax. He watches this video every day and spends all day, every day building Gravitrax. He's always wanted me to build Track I "Like Tom Vasel" and I couldn't do it! However, he managed it all by himself just using the final picture, I couldn't believe my eyes! He now mimics this video and phrases from it, I think he's your biggest fan Tom!
My more difficult challenges for those with the starter set: 1) can you make a marble run for 15 seconds from start to finish? 2) can you get a marble to reach all 4 corners of a 2x2 base map? 3) making a 1x4 base map, can you get a marble to start on one end, roll to another end, then finish back adjacent to the starting launch pad? Edit: I wish there was a boardgamegeek entry for Gravitrax where I can upload challenges to share.

I bet if you made a wee simple website there would be a happy group of folk that would participate! I'm looking up this video to see if my partner would like this and that's just the sort of thing he'd look for after getting it! All the best!
I brought this home for my grand kids and they loved it! We made a couple of runs from the book but they wanted to design their own. They loved working on problems of speed and height as they figured this out. Be sure to try the hammer, it’s another thing that will give a push the marble along. This is a great STEM toy.
Tom, do you subscribe to Jelle's Marble Runs? It's a cool channel for marble races. He did a 240 metre Gravitrax run a few months ago. Lord knows what it would cost to build something like that though.
Love the music choice while you were building the track! That’s that electro swing!

I was thinking the same thing-- is that library music or something you can buy on a CD?

Syncopator it's definitely a genre you can look up. Also try searching for artist like Caravan Palace, Swing Republic, Electronic Swing Orchestra, Kormac, Tape Five, Nicolas Repac, Parov Stelar and Mocean Worker all electro swing. Enjoy!

@@guillermoz4914 props for bringing up Mocean Worker and Parov Stelar 😊 - I love them
Watch out Heroscape Tom needs room for his marple game.
I´m really happy you did a review of GraviTrax! We looooove it, it fascinates all of my 5 kids from 7-16. Which is the best thing that can happen to a Mom :) They can do so many cool things and try out different tracks all the time. We do have the starter set and the Starter Sert XXL - which I would recommend to anyone.
I remember playing with those plastic marble tracks as a kid, they were the coolest toy ever. I wouldnt buy this personally but it's still really cool, kind of a more aesthetically pleasing and compact version of that toy from childhood.
You know you've stumbled upon something good when even the BOX is sturdy....
This looks like it'd be a lot of fun to play around with.
Our local ToysRUS had everything for sale (-25%) so picked up a copy today :) Yes ToysRUS still exists here. There was a set there with extra platforms so maybe that would be a nice pickup?
Nice setup. Modular marble runs are always way cool. Unlimited marble tracks to build out there! Lots of fun.... : ) Ribbit.
Is this going to be placed on Board Game Geek?
Very helpful 👍
Can you set this up in a way that the marbles keep looping?

Looks like there is a lift kit available.

It's impossible for the laws of physics, what you can do is buy a lifter that you have to press a button to make the marbles go up
Does it only work with the marbles it comes with and how many do you get. Sorry if you asked this in your video

I was also looking at the hape wooden marble run. Not sure which one to get my son for his birthday. He will be 8 but has autism so worried he will struggle putting this one together. Any advice
Cool layout :)
I wonder if DT will come back and review Gravitrax again now that they have a solitaire game version? Small boxes around $30 usd with 30 challenges that get progressively harder. There are 3 versions with different pieces and challenges each. They are also completely compatible with other sets. I actually came here thinking this was a review for those before realizing how old the video was.

So older versions didn't have the puzzles?
I remember having something like this as a kid. Definitely a must buy. But it would be cool if they can actually wrap a game around this That would have been awesome.

The first thing that comes to mind? A game that challenges you (possibly other players as well) to test your abilities to make a track that can accomplish certain feats like endurance, efficiency, or completion... you could even implement drafting mechanics for parts to ensure your "team" of marbles has what they need to accomplish the challenges.

I wonder if you can combine a set or two with Coaster Park? As I remember from Tom’s review, that was a decent game crippled by the coaster bits not actually working

Wow nice Video 👍😁👍
Tom, Just a heads up on the nomenclature of structures; Girders = beams which span between columns, pillars or stanchions which are the vertical elements
GraviTrax is very cool👍👍
You could use these parts for a pinball machine.
yo gravitrax are the best
This is so cool. I also made a really cool trick shot video using marble run if you would like to check it out.
Interesting. We are far from the good ol’ Mouse Trap...
I'm amused that you keep saying things like 'as the game goes on' and 'this will change each turn' out of habit.
