Gravitas: US, China trade war reignites; what does it mean for India?

The US has increased tariff on Chinese Electronic Vehicles to 100%. Fresh tariff has also hit Chinese semiconductors, steel, medical products, among others. The measure affects $18 billion in imported Chinese goods. China has accused U.S. of bullying and has vowed retaliation.

China now can tell the whole world that their cars are so good that the US are so frightened that it has to do everything to counter China's cars. Without this American effort, the world would be still in doubt. Now, they have full faith in China's cars.

They are. But how much CO2 and methane do you think Chinese industry emits every year with the official pledge to be carbon neutral by 2060? It is billions and billions of tonnes of gas plus pollution and environmental damage from mining in Latin America and Africa, the production of concrete, steel, paint, chemicals, batteries etc etc. Chinese made EVs are not selling well in China so the way to get rid of excess stock is to export it and sell it at knock down prices in foreign markets with their own established car manufacturers.

The hypocrisy from the US is despicable. At least China is taking premeditated steps to counter the global warming through these EVs, solar panels and massive reforestation projects. That is basically what it is, despite you thinking the opposite. US could compete with China if it implements sweat shops, unlimited polluting, and the government basically builds the factories for the automakers. Instead of doing that, we encourage China to stop doing all of the above and elevate itself to not doing those things.

Yesterday there were sanctions against India because of Iranian ports. To do things down to earth, electric vehicles, China has been layout and construction for 10 years. 100,000 patents filed. It is not a substitute for India today. There would have been sanctions on Chinese batteries, but almost all electric vehicles use Chinese batteries.
