Basil Rajapaksa could not contest for the general election not because of corruption allegations, he could not contest because he is a citizen of America, Basil is a dual citizen of USA and Sri Lanka. During that time dual citizens were not allowed to contest in any elections, after the general elections Gotabaya Rajapaksha removed that.

@@warnasamika sometimes a bit of internal division is better to prevent total division. At least democracy means the US is still one country right now, if Joke Biden had absolute power, it would instead be 50 countries right now. Authoritarianism has been tested for millennia in the past and people got rid of it because the system sucks. Every so often, you'd get a dumbfuck in power who screws the entire country up and there would be nothing to stop them.

You forgot Nipuna Ranawaka, the sister's son. And all other extended family members in power positions. All the vultures flocked together to get a piece of this dying country.

😂 what's wrong. I have ideological problems with current government. But this party congress had enough time to reform, they didn't... They killed the concept of opposition, sometimes its more crucial than one election. Election lasts for a month, opposition for next 5 years.

Sorry but you can't compare the Nehru dynasty in India with that of the Rajapaksa's in Sri Lanka! Those in the Nehru dynasty were chosen over many generations to be leader of their party & then were democratically elected by the Indian electorate to be P.M. of the country. However with the Rajapaksa's whilst one of two of them may have properly elected into office by the Sri Lankan electorate, most of them got into their positions of power in the gov't through outright & despi cable corru ption & nepo tism!

Don't spread false information. Basil Rajapakshe was not prohibited to contest in the 2020 general election. Whether his entry into parliament is a necessity ?. That's a different question.
