Asking roubles for its exports is what strenghtened Russia's currency; it's exactly what allowed the US dollar to keep its value since the 70s despite astronomical printing since all international trade is denominated in US dollars (especially oil trade), so the value of the dollar is maintained artificially high by global trade demand, not by the US economy. The fact that Russia's currency is backed by commodities on which the whole planet is dependent on doesn't hurt either.

Russia is starting to go through deflation. They have also been reducing interest rates in order to reduce the rouble strength. Their economists are very much aware of the issue as this affects their exports. I think for a country that’s gone through about 7 sanctions packages from what used to be their main market in the last few months they are doing exceptionally well. Also moving away from dollar euro trade and using their own currency as well as their newer trade partners local currencies increases the value of the rouble and the local currencies of the countries they are trading with outside the dollar and swift system. Make no mistake Russias success with be tied to the success of many economies in the global south.

All what Russia has to do now is to reduce prices on goods for export to remain competitive. Salaries and wages needs to be scaled back.. The stronger the rouble, the richer Russians become. If the rouble is equivalent to the dollar or pounds Russia will remain an attractive business destination.

His entire "scheming" has already been outlined in painful detail, including how long he spent saving up money into the knee-jerk invasion because his cancer was getting worse. Same with fertilizers and wheat. Countries, corporates, and individuals will begin their own production to be more self-reliant or use technology to bypass this or simply add other food sources. They need to make certain that no insolvency is made by issuing certificates beyond their actual means in terms of gold/oil whatever asset/commodity they back the Ruble with. So there is a caveat, that is all I am saying. I am very glad Russia has done this and every country should do the same ASAP.

Most of the restrictions referred to here have largely been lifted. And the government is now really trying to bring the ruble back to 65-75 to make exports competitive. But this does not apply to energy carriers, which occupy a significant part of our exports and are not currently experiencing any problems. Inflation forecasts are also more optimistic than stated in this video. On my own behalf, I can thank the West for the sanctions, they helped our oligarchs to think in the right direction and shook the entire political elite a little, which was useful. Putin once said: "I think it would be good for us if those who want to impose sanctions would introduce all the sanctions that can be imposed, and as quickly as possible. This would give us a free hand to protect our national interests by such means as we consider most effective for us."

Russia’s economy is based on commodities that are vital for other countries so they will continue to buy from Russia despite the prices. 3. I enjoy her reporting and learn much from it, but I'm not convinced that she is doesn't have an agenda. Her analyses consistently seem contrary to the defense of Ukraine. I assume that is because it is inconvenient for India. Maybe just because I'm old, her delivery is often too rapid fire for me to digest. A lot of American commentators and some legislators use this technique to "snow" their audience. They spit out facts too quickly for proper consideration, then summarize as if they've proven they're case. The casual user only hears the summary assuming the "facts" presented would be accurate, although it was all a blur. I'd prefer she slow down just a bit.

That said, I think Putin has a multi stage plan to secure Russia by reconstitute the USSR or Russian empire. Ukraine attempting to join NATO merely pulled the trigger. Once Ukraine is under Russian control, again, the rest of the Baltics will fall. Russia's control of EU energy and Ukraine food supplies will insure that NATO will not respond. The strengthening ties with china, India, Algeria, and OPEC nations are painting the EU into a corner. I don't think he wants to occupy the west, just to make them subservient.

Good. You explained in detail to us that Russia has strengthened the ruble artificially. Then explain to us why other currencies fall in price? And what prevents other states from taking measures to strengthen their currencies? I will answer for you - Because Russia, unlike others, can afford such strengthening measures. She is rich and self-sufficient. And by the way, the real purchasing power of the ruble is about twice as high as it is now, and the dollar should cost 26 rubles. I didn't come up with this, The Economist magazine came to this conclusion in its new issue of the Big Mac Index.

Short term gain but in a few years Europe will all be using renewable energy and heat pumps. Then the Russians will be completely screwed.
