I like him cause you know he was easy to work with and honestly yeah most westerners don't know at all. I know that millions died under his charge, people saw their own country fall and large portions of it left and became the Baltic states but honestly he allowed Europe to prosper so idk mixed feelings. Also one big reason the soviets had such a hard time Un- stalinizing was because of Stalin putting in measures to stop the soviets who dared do what he did

Former soviet states stopped burdening Russia, and their per capita GDP increased. It’s amazing how his efforts to improve the daily life the average Soviet Citizen is vastly underrated, especially within Russia. Putin looks physically sick. He creatrs enemies out of his unique imagination instead of looking for friends and the average Russian is paying for it while his pals try to hoard stolen wealth that belongs to the State.

During the Covid-19 lockdown, I started watching WION Gravitas led by Palki Sharma Upadhyay. Since then my interest increased very much in Geopolitics, international relations & world politics. But today on Sep 02, 2022, a report emerged that she is leaving the WION channel. If that is true then I will say finding such a bold, unbiased, knowledgeable, and outstanding journalist is very difficult. Surely, many daily viewers like me will miss you.

Reconciling the past & present in one's own life is vital in the attainment of inner peace .The same holds true to a nation where the leader works real hard for harmony & unity among its people. Politically it maybe a challenge domestically & internationally for Pres Putin to decide accordingly to give proper recognition and respect to Gorbachev. This is a golden opportunity for him to show magnanimity and to accept the past events in his great nation's history while he's still in power .Regardless of his personal feeling or "issues" toward the late Pres Gorbachev and not minding the opinion of domestic & global community , he can do the honorable & right thing now by giving due acknowledgement i.e.state funeral & burial to Gorbachev .He will become even more stronger in the eyes of the world and his own people . History is going to be kinder to him .

That is the wests opinion. Gorbachev got on the train and forget where the breaks were. President Putin is hated by the west, because he brought the Russian Federation to a point, that no one dares to attack Russia. He brought his nation back to Super Power Status, that is why the collective west dislikes him. We saw what happened with the first Russian President Yeltsin, the drunken one you remember that west adored him. They adored him, because west thought, they can control their natural resources. Putin put a stop to that. As for his safety, he often walks to his office on his own, unlike Biden surrounded with CIA 24/7. He takes his guests for hunting, sight seeing etc. Has any western leader do such thing, and why not? American streets are full of AK 47s.

You have no idea why the USSR fell apart did you? empires don't just fall. It isn't because a leader simply said "we don't do this no more".There was an economic crisis, the trade between the soviet countries started to stagnate, people started rising up, some for political reforms, others because there was nothing to eat. If the people lived well and their governments were stable with no issues whatsoever, then the USSR would have never fallen, yet histoy says otherwise. I get it. You people in Africa have a lot hate for the west due to atrocities and explotation they put you through and from what I've heard how the USSR actually pushed for decolonisation and the independence of african nations. But It was simply the fact that the economy of the Soviet Union was not built to last. That's even one of the main points about communism. It requires a wealthy and I mean a WEALTHY country. Maybe something like Switzerland, with added oil and gas money.

Gorbachev was a great leader, probably the best the Soviets ever had. People of USSR were not ready for his revolution to bring USSR as a civilized well developed country. Putin is nothing compared to Gorbachev, other than his power hungry nostalgia, he has no new programs to take Russia from their third world status. Even Brazil has a higher GDP than Russia. Not to mention per capita GDP, where it is at the 86 th place behind its own old satellite countries like Rumania, Bulgaria, etc. What a tragedy.

Gorbachev was the last leader of a country that no longer exists, why would you have a state funeral for him? 1st prime minister of Russia didn't get a state funeral! And also russia just had one state funeral since the fall of USSR for the 1st president of Russian federation. You have to understand the stigma of state funeral in Russian political culture, in the 80s there was the race of the gun carriage, people hated it. It might also explains why state funerals are so rare in Russia And Gorbachev asked for a private funeral which was denied as he was laid to rest in a fashion typical for a soviet leader out of power, check the footage of funerals of Soviet leaders who died out of office.

sorry but the soviet Union was disbanded by Eltsin . MSG tried to save USRR but it was too late in 17 years of Breznev the USRR went form being the second economic power and the first military power in the world to a nation that didn't have the resources to maintain control over its colonies in eastern europe (what the Russian leadership called the ballast) . Gorbachev tried to discard that ballast and to decentralize power. This infuriated both the Soviet leadership that made a coup against it and the Moscow leadership (led by Yeltsin) that moved by the fear of losing power towards the periphery, agreed with the Belarusian and Ukrainian leaders to dissolve the USSR
