Graves is the best new character they came up with for the new Modern Warfare. He’s a soldier that looks out for his men, wants to get the win and if he has a bit of fun doing it so be it. Also, there’s a really funny line during the AC-130 mission this time around. When you destroy a tank in this mission Graves says “I hate those things” implying he never wants to be associated with a tank ever again.

Depending on the tank it might be the T-14 which has an uncrewed turret and everyone is in a metal box in the front which could have lead to him surviving and using an emergency escape hatch underneath the tank to get out. The front crew comparment wasnt on fire and the hatchs didn't pop so he might have lived. Or he might have stolen soap's plot armor and survived that way.

General Sheppard never “directly” ordered Graves to kill Task Force 141, but he did heavily insinuate the authorization to use deadly force if threatened. Yup, I even liked Modern Warfare 2019 for trying to ground the story in some form of reality (despite it also has dumb moments) it also an incredible soundtrack. MW2 just started going back to being dumb again which was disappointing. I mean as a British man, hearing all the British characters talk like they eat gravel for breakfast makes me wince. But graves definitely stuck out as a more interesting character. I’d love it if it went for a ‘Sicario’ level of tone story wise. It certainly seemed it was trying to do that in the first game but now it’s almost become like a marvel movie.

@@wanyekest6969 I think he meant ‘typical’ or ‘standard’. I know what he’s trying to say, he comes across as a typical, hard headed American patriot kinda guy when you first see him in mw2 in the ac-130. I fucking love the casting they got for him too. Only issue is he seems under written now. He needs a motive to be evil and from what I can tell they haven’t done that after MW3. I get the feeling the fanbase liked him more than they thought and so they brought him back and made him good? Or he’s gonna be the friend in shadow company that makarov is working with? Not sure. If you make a character a loyal dog to an evil character, what you typically want to do is have them prove to be untrustworthy because their ONLY loyal to one person over all else (I.e. we’re only friends if I’m told we are friends, like in MW2) and you defeat them which is kind of a typical conclusion. Or, they are betrayed by the person they are loyal too and they turn on them. Either way is satisfying. But the way they write any character just feels so superficial in this series. It’s so aggravating

Graves technically didn't use it at first. He warned them not to get involved to try and stop their operation, but his hands were forced when they defied the orders and Alejandro tried to assault him. The back and forth happened and it spiraled from there. Graves simply followed orders, and if some of 141 was taken out in the process that would work out for Shepherd as it would be loose ends cleaned up. I think 141 knew this which is why when Farah laid out the pictures it was only Shepherd and Makarov since at the end of the day those two were trying to kill off 141. They always referenced Graves as a dog on a leash, in other words he was always, as he stated, just doing his job. No general is going to be on the front lines clearing houses or engaging in door to door combat.
