Hi. Interesting channel. I am about 5 years older than you and saw my first show in 1989. I was especially smiling when you were talking about grateful dead books. The family album I had back in the day as well as deadbase of course and the Rock Scully book is good also. I was coincidentally living in SF when Jerry passed away so I went to the Polo fields and all the memorial stuff. It was indeed a real sad time.
I'm loving this!!!! Making me want to look for a Mu Tron

Thanks for the support M’man🤙
I fried my qtron the same way, lol. The one thing I couldn't live with on the qtron was the massive volume jump it had and no volume control. So I'd get a huge jump in volume and turn my guitar down a little and then it wasn't hitting it hard enough to quack...
I first saw Jerry with the mutron 4/27/77. 77 is my favorite tone. Simple yet distinctive effects chain.
Haven't even watched yet but thumbs 👍...gonna press play now!!
Thank you for what you do!!
I almost bought my second BTM hat earlier today but seeing this video is just a sign I need another one
Would love a detailed run down of your rig - especially interested in how your pre-amp connects with the 2300 (which is gorgeous btw).
Awesome, hope you enjoy the pedal!!
such good info! Thank you.

In my search for a great envelope filter I was disenchanted with the Q-Tron + which is kind of stand-out these days. I wanted a smaller pedal for my board, and preferably one that would take 9v power. After trying a couple, I landed on a Keeley Neutrino v2. Keeley made it with Jerry's tone in mind, and it certainly ticks all my boxes. Sounds really really good. I've thought about getting a new Mu-Tron, but at double the price, I just can't justify it!
Love this
I've had a couple mu-trons. They are best used sparingly.
Great video on the MuTron, man! One thing worth nothing, that New Years show wasn’t the debut of the TB500. I’m not sure when the exact debut was, but there are pictures of gigs from the fall tour when he’s using that guitar (10/9/76 comes to mind). My guess is that he used the TB1000A for the first half of ‘76 and then switched to the TB500 for the fall tour. You can also definitely hear it on those fall tour recordings because Jerry’s got a middle pickup again, so he lives on it as opposed to swapping between the neck/bridge on the TB1000A (which I love).
Thanks. What would be all your top must-have pedals?
Why didn't you play the damn thing? I would have liked to hear what i sounds like.

he plays it at the end of the video
Thanks for the vid - not to be that guy - but Mike's last name is Beigel - not Bengal..... I own a '75 era Mutron (probably 2nd or 3rd gen as it has an internal power supply.) It's too bulky for my pedal board and too valuable to gig with. My solution is the Ibanez AF-8 (Autofilter) which is a Mutron Clone w a Boss pedal sized footprint. It's every bit as vowelly and juicy as the full on official unit but much more modest in terms of real estate. There are solutions to using a quality envelope filter without having an OBEL and UGB on a guitar - namely - use of a compress or limiter after the filter to avoid volume spikes. You might also want to spin up some future show about the interactions of specific pedals Garcia used simultaneously - like the Boss OC-3 Octave with the Mutron and his MXR Script Phaser with MXR DIstortion (and in the later era with the Boss HM-2 Heavy Metal Pedal.

I appreciate it. Proper nouns are my achilles heel. I bet that AF-8 sounds awesome. I’ve always wanted to try one out. Thanks for watching✌️

I use an 80’s Boss TW-1 auto wah (or touch wah)I have a Source Audio Spectrum that does a good job. I think I read somewhere Jerry used a Boss TW-1 at some point.
