That's why JRAD slaps so hard. They're not afraid to go anywhere with any song. They just opened a show with Esau>Cats under the stars. They give zero Fs about following any sort of Dead structure.

I appreciate you doing this Davvy. I personally prefer the original lineup with Sam and Clay. Check out Rubin and Cherise from their Shred 420 show a couple years ago. Can’t speak much for this current lineup.

I was stoked to see that you were reviewing the Shred cause I'm a big fan, but DAMN, I have to say that this video is not one of their best efforts. PLEASE check out some of their other vids and give them another look/listen. I've been to several of their shows and never been disappointed. I love Austin's comment. I hope he invites you to sit in sometime. I'd love to be at that show! Love your channel, your work and your passion.

Their cover of Man Smart, Woman Smarter is fantastic. I saw them at Electric Forest in 2019 with all my non deadhead friends and they had a better time than I did I think

Also agree... You train like you fight and fight like you train. That was a very timid performance in a lot of ways. But hey im not one to talk. They all have great voices but sounded like they were all just holding back in every way.

I Love you, Davvy. Hope you're feeling well up in the head, and down in the heart. Jah bless, and keep you always. Oh and also Grateful Shred seems more like a cover band whereas St. Owsley, and JRAD and bands like that are, in my mind, jam bands *doing* covers. You know what I mean?

You should do a reaction to Cosmic Charlie out of Athens. They are one of my favorites besides JRAD. Their show early this year in Raleigh was amazing. They did a middle set of Dark Side of the Moon between 2 Dead sets, it was so good.

Saw them live, and they brought a lot more flavor than they did on the rehearsal takes. Dan Horne blew me away! I was a little underwhelmed by this version as well.

I can understand that this may be more reserved as it's a rehearsal, but why are they all playing the same guitar? Man, if you're going to have 3 guitar players someone should play something with humbuckers. It would definitely add some more sonic texture. Thanks for the video Davvy!

My opinion is you're awesome.

You guys should check out Mapache which is comprised of the two former guitarists in Grateful Shred. They are the only GD cover band I have enjoyed.

I agree I was expecting a lot more energy and maybe a more hard rock version of the dead with a name like grateful shred... not throwing shade, they played it well, just felt like it could have been a little more original. Thanks for the content Davvy!

Agreed, the rehearsal lacked creativity and originality but Dan has been slayin this lead bass and I really dig the direction theyre going with Adam and Dan. CATS! Also I think they have 3 guitarists because the one dude plays lap steel.

Only thing really missing was the guitar solo. The psychedelic jam at the end was pretty cool. Otherwise it was ok.

It's maybe not the best version I've ever seen, but hey, their playing the music! A lot better than I can anyway. But it's still missing something though for sure. Though didn't you say that this video is just them doing rehearsal or something?

one of my favorite grateful dead cover bands is joe russo’s almost dead u should give them a listen also i love the videos i’m 16 and dead and co is what got me into the dead cause i was a mayer blues fan but yes i agree any dead cover band that brings people into the music is good 😊

Maybe a single guitar solo from one of the three guitarists? As someone who plays this song, it’s an amazing jam vehicle. Just wanted to see more than just texturing.

They sound okay in some parts its just a terrible name because there's no shredding. I expected it to be heavy metal dead tunes. This is more like that Daniel donato jammy country stuff

This band was better when Sam and Clay from Mapache where in it. This is pretty boring.

Yep that was my thought. It’s a rehearsal, so maybe the new guys will be broken in by showtime. Until then it kinda reminds me of CATS - maybe because the two dudes from that band stand WAY out here

It sounds tired. The "Crumar" style organ doesn't sound like the right timbre, either...IMHO.

Not trying to be mean here, but the vocals sound like they dropped a shit ton of Xanax right before they walked on stage

This is my first time re-watching this and I feel like you need to do like a week with of practice with them and make them better. They just seem to be lacking in direction. They feel so watered down and vanilla. The texturing shit they’re doing isn’t working. It dull and subpar. I know people disagree with me on this, but what the Dead scene needs now is some fucking punk attitude and drive.

Damn they have zero energy. This sounds really sad. Jesus.

"No hate and I'm not knocking them" then you proceed to hate and knock their rehearsal video, even before the song starts? AND THEN you say you would only go to their show if they asked you to sit in with them. They should be so lucky... Grateful Shred is an absolute blast live btw.

You were honest. IMO, they were unemotional, lacked enthusiasm and lacked charisma. Their performance was brutal for a pro band. They should not have released that video.
