Grateful Dead - China Cat Sunflower/I Know You Rider (Louisville, KY 7/6/90)
Музыка
"By 1990, China/Rider had been in the Dead's repertoire for more than 20 years, since they were first joined in the Fall of 1969. A consistently played combination until 1995 (aside from a brief hiatus 1975-1978, with one performance during that span on 12/29/77), this was most commonly a second set opener in the later years, usually going into a Weir song. This sequence is from Brent's final tour with the Grateful Dead." - David Lemieux

I'm kind of tripping over the word "consistently", which is only true if you don't count the late 70's, when China Cat/Rider was very rare. In fact, between 10-20-74 and 2-3-79, the combination was played exactly one time.

There are bad shows, good shows, and great shows. They span across all the years the Grateful Dead played. I only saw shows in late 80s and 90's, there were great shows in the 90s but it was hit or miss, IMO. I think early on after Brent died it took a while to integrate Vince and even when he was integrated it was a different sound than the Brent years.

@Mark Green It's important to know the difference between a great show and a shitty show. There were both and in betweens too. Anybody that thinks that all shows were great, either isn't discriminating enough or didn't go to enough shows or listen to enough live GD to know the difference.
Brent was and is still so underrated for his contribution.. RIP brother

I was getting ready to start 7th grade when this show happened. It was 2 years after I graduated high school before I knew who the grateful dead was, and I have been hooked since that day. The GD has done so much for music even to this day. It is a self sufficient community that thrives. Even with dead & CO. And all the other Jam band groups, that spirit is progressive and will always thrive. Thank you GD.
That grin. The most infectious grin ever! ..... Miss you Uncle Jerry
Happy Happy Happy..thank you Grateful Dead for bringing a smile to my face
Best Dead show I ever saw. And I saw a bunch.
The 1st 40 seconds of this video put a HUGE smile on my face. Pure joy emulating from the band and the crowd. So killer.
I love listening to all the Greatful Dead. Reminds me that just because things are crap all around the world and in my day to day life, it wasn't always so. The music reminds me of better times so long ago now....

Mydland's last show with the Grateful Dead was on July 23, 1990 at the World Music Theater, in Tinley Park, Illinois. The last song he sang that day was "The Weight." His portion concluded with the words, "I gotta go, but my friend can stick around."
Whoever is handling the editing/uploads, thank you for your service!

I love the Grateful Dead so much. Their music means the world to me. I really wish I got to see them back in the day, but i was born in 1998. Did get to see dead and company. It was a great show. My one friend whom is a deadhead too, tried to get me in to Dead and company and the Grateful Dead in high school, but I didn’t really care for it back then.

I always, always get a kick out of Bob's short shorts. Man. The funny thing is that it's 2019 and short shorts for dudes are back "in." I actually live right across from a house of undergrads and the guys wear shorts shorter than I'd wear to the gym, much less to class or around town. Not a fan of clam digger-length shorts, but upper man thigh is something nobody needs to see. Funny that it has even caught on in NCAA basketball. I thought my eyes were deceiving me last March Madness...then there was a newspaper article all about players finding more freedom in them. Oh really? You mean wearing "shorts" to your ankles is a hassle? Go figure. Oh well, style is personal.

This was my first Grateful Dead show! I stopped by a friend's house early that day (we live in Huntsville, AL) and he was looking for someone with a car that could make it to Louisville. I didn't even like the band at the time, but he was providing the gas and the grass so off we went! We made it to the lot just as Bruce Hornsby's opening act was finishing, got our tickets and scored some acid. I ate a couple of tabs outside, but wasn't feeling it so I ate two more that I bought inside. Then the first two kicked in and I was out of my mind! The show was awesome and I will forever be a fan of this amazing musical community. There's also a little over an hour of this show included as bonus material on the DVD "Grateful Dead View From the Vault Volume 1".

I WAS THERE! THIS specific China/Rider was a peak moment in my youth bc I was dancing in the back of the field at this very moment in what may be hard to believe was.....a set of showers to cool off under while dancing on astroturf. They were fenced off on the field, though not in the shot in this vid. The ultimate magik occured when Jerry sung the line "water fall all over my back" .... I turned around so the shower water dripped down my back! Believe it, or not! Anyone else there who can back me up on this?
