What was missing in the Welnick years in retrospect is the lack of someone to respond melodically to what Garcia was playing. Sonorously the band sounds dynamite, but Mydland would have added a lot more polyphony than Welnick intuitively did.

Yes "even" in '93 the world's greatest band played some AMAZING music!

It was hit & miss by '93. Cal Expo was the best I saw that year.
