This event must have been to do with the annual Graspan Parade which was scheduled for today. From Horse Guards the parade was to step off to the Graspan Memorial, the Royal Marines' national memorial next to Admiralty Arch, for a remembrance service, which this year is also helping to mark the corps' 360th anniversary. Then they were to parade up the Mall, back to Birdcage Walk where this documented portion of the event began and march up to Horse Guards Parade again for the fall out.

Graspan parade (the equivalent of a Black Sunday parade for the Royal Marines). On the same day there also was the Coldstream Guards black sunday and the Cavalry sunday parades.
