Grappling for Karate

In todays video we discuss the concepts of grappling in karate. As a brazilian jiu jitsu black belt I look into the most common karate techniques that people are using for grappling. I have over 30 years of karate training and have had the opportunity to train with some of the highest level instructors from around the world. This is an introduction to a series of videos I would like to explore more. If you want to see more videos like this let me know in the comments

I'm a BJJ brown belt, and i train with a karate black belt who has been training for over a decade. Plus, he's a BJJ brown belt, too. He is so difficult to roll with cause he looks at things at such a different perspective. He hits me from so many crazy angles and unexpected places. Love rolling with the dude, and I always learn something neat when I go with him.

That’s awesome. Karate gets a bad rap in the grappling world but there are definitely some carry over skills that help both arts. Thanks for supporting the channel

Your comment about styles in karate is very perceptive. We all need to find what works for us, so cross training is important. As a karateka, I also train in judo to give me a better understanding of the throws in the karate kata, and also to have some basics in order to be able to defend myself on the ground. Great content - thank you for sharing.

I started in American Kenpo and found i could hold off bjj pretty well, but once they got hold of me, it was tough to transition. I do bjj now as well. Using kicks, punches, elbows to close the gap is good. Plenty of options for striking from in the guard. Also, wrist and joint locks work very well Thanks for the great videos

Thanks for the support. Every style has some holes that need to be filled and cross training helps to cover all bases. Keep up the training, the journey never ends
