One of my granddaughters requested I demonstrate how to make my peanut butter fudge. So here ya go. This is a step by step instructional video. It's easy once you know how. This is a rich fudge but so economical to make and you don't need any fancy equipment. You will want to make it again and again. You will find my recipe below. Granny's Old Fashioned Peanut Butter Fudge
3 cups of white sugar
1 cup of milk
1 cup of peanut butter, smooth or chunky
4 tbs of cold butter
Splash of vanilla extract
1 prepared 8x8 or 9x9 pan greased with butter.
Note: (Have a cup of ice water ready to test the sugar mixture. The mixture is done when it reaches the soft ball stage.)
In a heavy bottom pan mix the milk and sugar on medium to high heat until it starts to boil. Stir the sugar mixture continuously to prevent burning or sticking. It is important to adjust the heat as needed so as not to burn the mixture. This is the base of the fudge. Cooking time will take about 20 minutes of cooking until done. Just be patient. After 6 or 7 minutes spoon a small amount of the mixture in to the cold water. It will not form a soft ball but this lets you see how close to being done the mixture is. I recommend testing 3 times. Discard the water and start with fresh ice water after each test. When the sugar mixture has reached the soft ball stage, (meaning you can form a soft ball with your fingers from the cooled mixture), turn off the heat and add the cold butter. Mix well. Add the splash of vanilla at this time. Now add the peanut butter mixing until completely incorporated. Carefully pour the mixture into the prepared pan. Cut when cool. This recipe will yield 16 large pieces or 32 smaller pieces. This fudge freezes very well.

My Grandma raised her kids in the depression. When we came along she was still making this. This is the same as her recipe (she used canned milk but I don't usually have that on hand so I use regular whole milk) and I turn this on when I make it and do it with you. *She did the ice in the water just like you to keep checking for the softball stage - this is how I teach my kids too! I miss my Grandma and doing it with you triggers such wonderful memories! Thank you Robin!

THIS IS A WINNER!! I made this peanut butter fudge for our family Christmas celebration. I have an accurate Thermapen thermometer. If you heat the mixture to 234 degrees then add the butter and vanilla to help stop the cooking (and immediately stir in the peanut butter), you will get perfect fudge every time. I like the fact that you can pour it hot into a buttered glass pyrex right after you stir in the peanut butter without cooling it. Some chocolate fudge recipes require the mixture to be cooled to 120 degrees and then beat the mixture. This is definitely easier. I used a generous cup of peanut butter, and three tablespoons of Watkins vanilla. Bon Appetit!!

My mom passed away in August this year and she always made peanut butter fudge. I didn't think I would ever be able to make it myself with her gone until I ran across your video. I was very surprised and happy to see that you make your fudge exactly the way she did. Once I saw your cold water and heard you say "soft ball " I knew it was like mom's. Thank you for sharing your video and giving me the complete directions that mom isn't here too. I'm very great full. God bless you. Becky Still

Isn’t it wonderful to come across something that brings back a special, enjoyable memory with a loved one we’ve lost. I find that it makes that memory even more special. My grandma died in 1996 and I still come across recipes that bring back those wonderful, happy memories. I’m glad you’ve gotten that here. It’s always really special for me when that happens. Enjoy that beautiful memory. ❤️

Words can not explain what this vedio did for me. My mom made this exact fudge for me as I grew up. Birthdays and Christmas only. It was such a treat. But she showed me one time how to make but to be honest I did not pay close enough attention. Then she suffered a stroke and passed. As I watched this vedio it was like I was watching her. You did everything just the way she did. Even the wooden spoon. When I seen the finished fudge I said is there anyway...well I watched the vedio 3 times and cried. Then tried it. IT IS MY MOMS FUDGE. My kids took a bit and began crying too. They are teenagers and remember it. Thanks to you we will have fudge for Christmas again. And just in time. True Christmas miracle. Also my mom said little is much when God is in it ALL the time. That just showed me God was in it. This vedio made my whole Christmas. It is a priceless gift for our family. Words can never say how much we Thankyou.

My Mom made this recipe and it is a very good recipe. I like one other of the responders have a bad back and it is hard for me to stand that long. Have you tried the easy fudge recipe? The one I use now is 1 cup of butter, 1cup peanut butter. I tsp of vanilla and two cups confectioners sugar. I melt the butter and peanut butter in the microwave. Remove and add 1 tsp vanilla and then add two cups of confectioners sugar or one box. You then pour it into your 8x8 greased pan and I do refrigerate mine. Prep takes 5 min and ready to cut in an hour. No boiling or having to form soft balls and to me just as good. When my Mom was living and I was young, I really could care less about cooking, but now I have a love of it and she is gone now. Do you make old fashioned divinity? My Mom always made it for Christmas and for friends who lost family members who have lost loved ones. I would love to learn how to make this. Thanks for opening up your home and sharing your wonderful recipes.

I am not a Divinity maker however my younger brother makes Divinity every Christmas. It's really delicious. I'm sorry to hear you have a bad back I know that is tough. I have had back problems off and on myself. It's good that you are carrying on some of the traditions of your mom. It's funny how when we're young we are not very interested in certain things but when we grow older we realize the value in them. Thanks for watching and sharing and I hope you have a blessed day.

Maybe I can learn how to use U-tube to show how to make Divinity turn out perfect every time whether it's winter or summer cuz a lot of people have a hard time making it work at different temperatures of the weather. Also you don't have to have professional mixer, but in the past through trial and error I have ruined a few mixers LOL

Everyone should be thankful to be blessed, because without God we would have nothing... no family or anything else for that matter! I just happened to see this today. I’ve made peanut butter fudge for years. My recipe is similar but in smaller amounts. I use 2 cups sugar, 2/3 cup milk and 1/8 tsp. cream of tartar. After it comes to a rolling boil, stir it constantly for 6 1/2 minutes. Test in the cold water for the soft ball stage, but the time doesn’t vary much. Take off the stove and add 2 tablespoons of butter and 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter. Have these things ready before you start cooking the milk and sugar. As the peanut butter and butter are melting, add 1 tsp. of vanilla. When all melted, pour into buttered dish. You need to work fast so it doesn’t harden in the pan. Pour into a buttered glass pie plate. Yours looks great, except I don’t care for the chunky peanut butter. For many years, I have sent my brother a batch of peanut butter and chocolate fudge for his birthday and Christmas. He said my last batch was the best ever!

I made peanut butter fudge tonight and I was curious how other people make it. You make it the same way as I do with the softball stage. Mine is a little different, I do use canned milk as you mentioned and I do not use butter, instead I put 1/4 cup light corn syrup at the end with the peanut butter and vanilla. Thank you for your video, so glad there are people out there that still do it the old-fashioned way! Carol from Arizona 🌵✌🏼

Thanks for watching and as always thanks for commenting. Have a great day!

Yes with cocoa that's right. Definitely no marshmallow, and I remember it has a bit of a grainy texture as it set up. Absolutely a good idea to know the old ways. Need to start working my way through my 1956 copy of Betty Crocker's Picture Cookbook. Just love the stories in it too.

Diane Watson heavy bottom pot is the best. I use my 40 year old pressure cooker pot just the pot my fudge always turned out. I thought like you did, pot is a little old looking but mine would look the same lol

Robin, this recipe is what led me to your channel. It’s exactly like the fudge from my childhood. I’ve enjoyed your participation in the pantry challenge since finding you and I’ll definitely remain as a subscriber.

Fantastic recipe! I just watched your video and tried it out myself. All I had was a thin bottom pan so I brought to a boil stirring rapidly over medium high heat on my gas range. Then dropped to a slow boil on medium low, closer to low, heat until I reached soft ball stage. I pulled off at 232°f I also tried the cold water bath and at 232°f it was dead on to what you showed. I never left it sit though do to my thin bottom pan. I can tell by the scrapings this recipe is phenomenal. Thank you so very much, God bless you! 🤗

I just put a little puddle of ice water on my counter and drop a few drops of mixture and when it is a soft little ball it's done 7-8 minutes. My recipe uses margarine and whole milk. I always start out melting the margarine add a little milk ,the 3 cups of sugar and 10 tlbs of milk so I'm anxious to try this.

mschilepepper10 thanks! I have never really made chocolate fudge except the marshmallow type. I grew up with a chocolate fudge made with Hershey‘s cocoa sugar milk etc. I am not a chocolate lover so perhaps that’s the reason I haven’t made it very much. I will do some research on the subject and perhaps I’ll find a good old-fashioned fudge recipe to try for you. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment and watch the channel.👍
