    This Filipino martials arts is amazing! I wonder why it's not popular here in the Philippines? Instead Filipinos prefer martial arts that originates from foreign countries. I mean I've seen a lot of martial art gyms that teaches karate, taekwondo, boxing, muay thai, mma. But I rarely see gyms that teaches kali, arnis. Even if I saw one they only have less than 10 students and the place was small. Philippines should promote Filipino martial arts.

  • @FMAPulse

    @FMAPulse

    It's always a topic of why it's not as popular within the country of origin. Some say it's because they want to keep it within the family, or transfer the knowledge to someone trust worthy (not crazy). We've heard it's always a secret in the Philippines, only taught to a select few. Even though Arnis is the national sport of the Philippines and is taught in the physical education classes, it needs to go deeper in terms of education and cultural heritage when passing it on. We've also heard that people are timid when training with weaponry.

    Most FMA systems use rattan for training (not bamboo). Since rattan is considered a vine, they come in different sizes, lengths and weight. The more nodes on the rattan makes it stronger and lasts longer when training. Most rattan sticks measure between 27-28 inches in length. For this specific system, they like to cut the stick down to 26 inches.
