One thing I'd like to add about the haptic feedback that didn't get brought up on the video is in gta online, when your at the night club, the closer you are to the speakers in the club blasting music, the more intense of haptic vibrations that the controller gives off. And you can literally feel the detail of the bass produced and it feels as if you put your hand on the speaker yourself. If you like haptics I reccomend checking out your nightclub in the new ps5 version

I don't understand why AF (anisotropic filtering) is always skimped on. I've been putting it at 16x for as long as I've been able to. The performance hit is practically non existent compared to the visual upgrade. Same with texture quality. Unless you are out of vram, high res textures are not a big impact at all yet the visual difference is huge.
@itsd0nk

I agree, although I’ve always disliked the look of 16x in most games. It’s unnatural for things to look that sharp at those angles, even in real life or on any camera. 8x is usually the perfect balance.
@childofvenus3781
2 жыл бұрын
I'm also confused about this. Especially in games like "The Last of Us 2" and also "Ghost of Tsushima"; Creators of these games are obsessed with details, especially naughty dog, details that are sometime so extreme that you wouldn't normally notice, but they don't care about something that fundamental?
@liamness

Consoles have APUs, the memory bandwidth between the CPU and GPU is shared. This is why 16x is normally "free" on PC.
@OGPatriot03

It's always a shame, AF 16x is mandatory for me. Mud textures at an angle look awful. As for comparisons to real life what you need is physically based rendering to add sheen to such surfaces, not muddy textures.
@fafski1199
2 жыл бұрын
@@itsd0nk Yep, I've always preferred using 8x over 16x. Outlines on some objects can look a little too overly crisp and sharp at times, while using 16x. While using 8x on the other hand, it seems to soften down and blur the edges just a touch. Which in turn, gives it a more natural look and without it looking jagged like with lower settings of 4x or lower. 8x is often the sweet spot, at least for me anyway.

It was a fun touch using Max Payne music on a GTA video, from a dead franchise to a over milked one. Props to Mr. editor, one of the best soundtracks out there.

A developer finally scaled up the depth of field bokeh with resolution increases? The one thing I would’ve liked to see is if it scales between the three graphics modes, since at least two of them are at different res. 1000% agree everyone's telling me to get a pc but my pc "gaming" experience stopped with 3d pinball on windows xp 🤣🤣 im so glad consoles finally can run games at a solid 60fps even though there were a few ps4 titles that ran at 60 fps with a lot of frame dips on the ps4 pro they were never locked and often played the same as the base and slim ps4 with higher resolution but having that buttery smooth performance and some games even supporting up to 120fps on PS5 is great

I only play games in 60+ these days. I'm really happy to see console games pushing for 60fps now, even if the console industry has already lost me at this point.

Yeah. Wow. It took only three console gens to make the game run on 60fps

I've experienced gta v on 60fps 1080P ever since it came out to pc. Experiencing it on 120fps @2K nowadays.

you should make that hop to PC and see what 120+ fps feels like, then you can take about game changers. the fact you waited until 2022 to experience something I experienced in 2012 is awful
Why do consoles continually use lower than 16x anisotropic filtering when this same setting on pc has been a standard since the early 2000's? I've never seen anisotropic filtering affect performance in a game

Maybe it uses too much memory but idk that’s just my guess or just poor optimization for ps5 hardware
I was waiting for this ....
15:28 how did you get the same exact hand movement at the same exact time on PS4, PS5 and PC?
There will come a time, very soon, when DF will be part of the Dev team for projects like this. The work undertaken is fantastic. Great job.
A huge oversight to me is NO option for 5.1 or 7.1 speakers. All the sound comes from my center speaker and there is no spatial audio except with the radio. On ps4 you had way more sound settings and I was hoping Digital Foundry would’ve picked up on this. Am I the only one anymore with a ps5 and a 5.1 speaker setup?
*Count Dooku voice: “I’ve been looking forward to this”.
was the sound upgraded on car engines? for some reason they sound better
This update should have been free. i feel this is a cash grab
Should have also included the PS3 version as well just to show the differences in jump.
That max payne theme gave me chills, thank you.
Pop in is a lot more prevalent with fidelity mode on, Performance or Performance RT seems to make a big difference but doesn't completely fix it
