‪@2020Wander‬ #travel #vacation #tourism #resort #cuba #holguín
The new all inclusive Grand Memories Holguin with 430 rooms the perfect escape for guests of all ages and Sanctuary at Grand Memories Holguin with 430 rooms adults only 18+ offers to experience the best of Cuba. 7 Sparkling pools, including an adults only pool and family pool. The resort’s beautiful stretch of beach with one of the most convenient beach bars. 860 Comfortable accommodations equipped with modern amenities including in-room Wi-Fi. Guests are invited to enjoy 4 restaurants (3 a la carte, 2 buffets and 9 bars).
This is our review of the week April 8-15, 2023.
The resort is almost 2 hours bus ride from the airport. If you need to use the washroom before you go onto the bus then do so. Pack your snacks 'cause there's not much at the airport to buy, so be prepare ahead especially if you have kids.
The resort is big, nice and clean. The room is nice and modern, only thing we don't like about our room is it's kind of an open shower in the washroom and there's no door to it, only door to the toilet (not sure if all the rooms are the same layout). We don't have any problem with the toilet paper like some people mentioned, but it's true that they only leave 1 roll at a time for you and it's run out fast so do bring a roll of toilet paper with you just in case lol.
The service is very good, everybody is very friendly, helpful and working very hard for you to have a good time there. Download a translating app if you have to, as some of them doesn't speak English so be kind.
Wi-Fi works well throughout the resort, except at the beach. They will give you 20 hours at first, if you use it up then just come back to the reception desk and ask for more hours. A little inconvenient is that you have to sign in often if the phone is inactive for like every 5-10mins.
The food was good overall, not a big selections but you can always find something good to eat. Surprisingly for Cuban food, it was very good at the grill section in the buffet - fish, chicken, squid, small crab, fried rice, pasta, omelette, eggs, pancake (do ask to put in all the spices that they have there).... just have to be patience for the line up. Cold cut sandwich, sweet potato chip, yogurt, hot chocolate, ice-cream, fruits... are also very good. Bring ketchup and hot sauce/pepper with you. Roasted pig and fresh coconut at the snack bar close to the beach (just check with the staffs to see which day). Try to book for your restaurants early, as it get full fast, we didn't get to book any. Pack some snacks from home and make yourself sandwiches from the buffet for your plane and bus ride (bring some ziplock bags or small containers to pack your food).
At the bars, not many selection of mixed drinks, sometimes they have the drinks you like (pina colada, margarita, coke...) sometimes they don't, and also depends on which bar you're at. Just ask them what they have or what they can make for you. Spanish coffee is good, or anything with rum.
There are so many pools at the resort for everyone, all ages. If you love the pools, this resort is for you. All of them are clean and beautiful.
The beach is right along the resort, it's long, nice but a bit windy. There're plenty of lounge chairs, just ask the guy there who will bring the chairs out to the spot you like. The Sanctuary side of the beach is very nice with soft sand, everywhere else high recommend you to bring water shoes.
There's something in the theatre every night. There's a basketball court, tennis court, gym and an entertainment room (For convenient bring your own tennis racks or ping pong paddles if you have one, and also bring some small board games or a deck of cards along too).
Bring US $1 or $5 Canadian bills for tips as they can't/hard to exchange coins.
Overall we had a good relaxing week.
Have a wonderful vacation!

Good day! Thank you for great video. Question about the beach. Is it rocky? Or white powdery sandy? What about snorkelling ? Is it a good spot to snorkel? Thank you 🙏

Hi! On the Sanctuary side of the beach, which is at the end, the beach is nice, clean with powdery sandy. Every where else the sand is soft then comes close to the water it's more rocks & shells, then into the water the sand is nice, soft and shallow. So, we would definitely recommend you to bring water shoes especially young kids. People does snorkeling right there at the beach. It was a little windy at the time we were there which was in April. Hope that help. Thanks for watching and have a good trip!

Hi! Sanctuary at Grand Memories Holguin is an all-inclusive, adults-only (18+). It is in the same resort, located on one side/area of the resort, the family area is on the other side. They offer an exquisite selection of services and amenities to guests. You have to check what is included in the package when you book or go to their website (www.memoriesresorts.com/resort/sanctuary-at-grand-memories-holguin). Thank you for watching! :-)

Thanks for the video. I am assuming the resort is pretty new and modern. I have been to Cuba many times and would like to see what this resort is like. I have been to Holquin twice before Do you have to walk to the beach or is there a golf cart service? The buildings seem to be close to each other, so I am not sure if golf carts are necessary. Do they have elevators? Is the set up like their resorts in Cayo Santa Maria, where you can go over to the Grand Memories? What is expected for tips now? What are they really short of for gifts? I have not been since 2018 because of the pandemic. Thanks for any information that you can give me.

Hi! The resort is new but not brand new, it used to be "Tesoro del Atlantico". It is the only one in the area right now, they're still building more resorts around. It's almost 2 hours bus ride from the airport, so be prepare for that. The beach is pretty long along the resort, it's close to all the buildings so no need to take the golf cart, but they do have golf cart service if you need it. Yes, they do have elevators (if you have trouble climbing the stairs then request ahead with them for the ground floor room). For tips I brought a lot of $1 US bills, just give what you can and or how you feel about the service provided. I'm not sure about the gifts of what they're really short, but I bought a lot of small stuffs from dollar store and put it in the loop bags. I'm pretty sure you going to have a good relaxing time. Thankyou for watching and have a wonderful vacation!

@@2020WanderI have booked for September. I may have to get some $1 US from the bank, because the lowest paper money we have in Canada is $5.00. Thanks again.

Good for you, you deserve it. I just found out from someone that you don't have to exchange to US dollars, just bring Canadian money and exchange it there whether at the airport or at the resort to their currency which is Cuban Peso. Every $1 Canadian is equal to approximately $18 Cuban Peso (as of today from google currency converter), so that way we all don't have to exchange back and forth. Thankyou for watching and have a wonderful trip!

OK, I just read all the comments & replies below. Nice camera work on your vid.👍👍 I have a couple of questions though.🤔🤔 How were the biting noseeums ( NOT mosquitoes ) in the mornings & evenings ? I have been to Cuba 15 times, so I know the drill. 🤬🤬Some resort areas' are worse than others.... Can I get a standard room on the top 5th floor that is quiet , any tips ? Also was there Scotch whiskey readily available at all the bars as well as diet cola ? ( I'm not a rum drinker ) Thank-you.

Hi! thankyou for watching. To answer your questions, first about the bugs, we get no bite at all not even mosquitoes nor seeing many around. We went in April so not sure the time of the year makes any difference about that. The room you have to check with your travel agent or check with the resort, and or request it when you're booking. I don't drink Whiskey so I didn't pay any attention about that, sorry, but you can also check with the agent to see if they have any answer for that, they might not have when we were there but might do now. Coke we don't get it all the time, some days they have some days they don't and sometime depends on which bar you're at too. Diet Cola I have no idea whether they'd have or not, I doubt it. I would say pack some with you, we did pack some Cokes with us. This resort either you really like it or you don't, every body experienced differently, for us we did have a good relaxing week. Hope that help you a little. Have fun and enjoy if you're going! =)
