I'm just a Japanese 66 years old man. Since the end of the 2nd World war, about 12 years later, the songs of Elvis, Pat, Paul, and Ricky had landed in Japan. After 5 years from Elvis Presley, we Japanese had experienced the coming of Little Eva, J. Tillotson, Cascades, Ronettes and Lesley Gore. By the way,I am understanding the delicate relations of the stories that 「It's my party」 and 「Judy's turn to cry」 which were sung by Gore. Anyway, I've been loving Little Eva's Locomotion which includes lovely dance. But now, I must confess that I was extremely surprised to hear「 Locomotion」 of Grand Funk Railroad. Too marvelous!

Tommy Ireland Thank you for your polite comment. Detroit reminds me of Motown sound. I wasn't interested in it except Supremes before. But several months ago, at youtube, I was suddenly enchanted by a certain song and its slow groovy dance. The title of that song is "My girl" sung by Temptations. I live at Kawagoe city where is 20 miles from Tokyo. And this old city makes feel the atmosphere of "Edo era" in which Samurai ruled. M Takahashi

Tommy Ireland I hardly knew Marvin Gaye. therefore, According to your recommendation, I've heard "what's going on" which he sang. So, I could feel a kind of emotional soul. I think he is one of great singers like Johnny Mathis. Nowadays, I often listen to Neil Young, James Taylor,Linda Ronstadt . Above all, the LP record like 「Harvest」 always strikes my heart. I like old LP records than CDs. Well, Would you mind to enter the next words into KZread's frame for searching? 「AKB48」 「fortune」 「cookie」. You'll run into present Japanese hit song titled 「Fortune cookie in love」. This seems to be receiving a little the influence of the joyful innocent slow dance of 「 Little Eva 」or「Temptations」. Please inform this to your granddaughter or other children. M Takahashi

When Motown meets rock….great, love from the UK.
60's and 70's had the best songs of ANY era!!!!
I have been married 32 years and we played this at our wedding reception and strolled into TWO OTHER events at the venue we had the reception….. collected about 20 additional guests and brought them back to our reception…… in Detroit no less and turned the LIGHTS OUT IN THAT PLACE !!!!!!!!! Can’t remember cutting the cake !!!! ✨❤️✨🥹🥹

Grand Funk!! Man, I haven't thought about these guys for a long time!! I was in the 8th grade, going into the 9th, when this song came out!! They used to play it on like a record player at our school dances. Along with Time in a Bottle, Seasons in the Sun, Sunshine on my Shoulders, Midnight at the Oasis, etc. I would religiously listen to Casey Kason every Sunday afternoon on my little transistor radio, singing right along! That brings back some great memories!! 💕
Let's not forget the backup singers... they were great!
Love Donna and Ella on backing vocals...they are killing it here.

Never realised that Grand Funk Railroad cashed in on the "Glam Rock" look when this song was on the charts. Loved it back then. Fucking love still now. Best version of the song IMO.

M Takahashi
