2023 was a wet year, and I suspect that Ethiopia was nervous about all of the controversy and wars nearby. On Wikipedia, it indicates that reservoir is only 50% of total volume but it sure looks like more.

When I see Abay I see a civilized and united nation.I always wonder why on earth we are so challenged not to build every inch of Ethiopia the same way as Abay.May God help us!

This will bring prosperity to the region. Egypt is just afraid of an economic competitor nearby. Egypt needs to negotiate from a less absolute perspective. Ethiopia was denied any water rights by that colonial law. Obviously, they are entitled to quite a bit of the water.
