Gran Soren Reference In Dragon's Dogma 2

Ойындар

This is just a quick video comparing some seafloor shrine buildings that are similar to a few Gran Soren buildings. Neat little easter egg. That's it.

    This. I noticed the staircase going up from the "Pawn Guild" up to the Duke's Domain and immediately thought "could this be Grand Soren?" I went over to the Rift Crystal and sure enough, there was the Pawn Guild building. I proceeded to then walk through the entire shrine, having a Breath of the Wild moment looking at the rubble of that wonderful city. Such a great inclusion by Capcom!

    If anyone hasn't noticed yet, further mysteries lie under Vermund and Battahl, as all over these regions you can come across arches and ruined doors just like the one for the Seabed Shrine. They all have the design of the door that blocks Bakbbatahl from the volcanic island. Some are even found deeper within caves. Hopefully Capcoms continued support leads to these being gates to further content drops or Ur-dragon like bosses. Theres also the Agamen culture who borrows a lot of influence from greco roman styles and could be far older than even Gran Soren, as the Greco Roman aesthetics were also used in DD1 when referencing that games Dragonforged and his old culture in the lands beyond the Black Fort.

  • @froggouk2

    Yeah theories are these Godsbane doors are DLC / unfinished areas and you'll need to use the restored Godsbane to access, which makes sense to not accessing them too early if they are DLC. They're also green, instead of the Blue door in Battahl.

    Similarities and other discrepancies seem to suggest that this is but a parallel world to that of DD1. Whatever happened to the Gran Soren in this world, it was a mirrored version to that of what we already knew from DD1. We already know that pawns travel between worlds that resemble each other almost identically, so this is the game's way of saying that whatever "Gran Soren" this was, it happened but it was a very, very different one to the one we once knew.

  • @XaeeD
    @XaeeD3 ай бұрын

    This genuinely made me feel things. Especially the use of that classic DD1 theme. As good as the music is in DD2, it doesn't really compare to the first game's soundtrack. But I really appreciate the devs putting this in the game. Feels like going home a bit. When I first saw the ruins of Gran Soren during my first playthrough, I kept walking around just looking at the place. Like; "This is subtly different, there used to be a door here, this is where I met so and so, I should be able to go down there..." It's not entirely our Gran Soren, but it's clearly Gran Soren. The fact that it isn't 100% identical might just mean that this is a version of the city that existed at some point in the past during the cyclical nature of this world. In my headcanon, this is an echo of a Gran Soren that's long since perished. That also places all the events of DD1 in the distant past from the perspective of this game.

    The Lore of Dragon’s Dogma is more like the Multiverse Theory in where in DD1, there are only the Duchies of Gransys, Hearthstone, Meloire and Voldoa with some Elves and Dwarves that rarely made an appearance in the first game. In DD2, there’s just the Kingdom of Vermund, the Battahl Empire and the Sacred Arbor. Both the casts of Dragon’s Dogma 1 and 2 are a lot different as in one, there’s Duke Edmund and his wife, Mercedes, Julian, Madeline, Quina, Serena, Mason and Elysion. In 2, there’s Brent, Ulrika, Wilhelmina, Sven, Empress Nadinia, Menella, Glyndwr, Talisen and Doireann. In the first game, the Arisen and Main Pawn can be either a Human or Elf. In the Second Game, the Arisen and Main Pawn can be either a Human, Elf or Beastren.

    Since this is a parallel world to each other infinitely, the moored world is what happened to Gransys and gran Soren when it potentially got flooded and the water level has risen thus either destroying an already existing Gransys/gran Soren or the water level rising prevented it from being named and claimed and thus leading to a different outcome that we have here with Vermund and bhethal being the main lands that were formed. Likely the former since the unmoored world without the water heavily resembles gran Soren!

It matches up geographically too, way to the northeast, where the original would have been.

    Here is my explanation as to why Gran Soren is facing the wrong way. First off, Bluemoon tower is in fact in this game southwest of Vernworth. The entranceway is shot-for-shot the same as it is in the first game, its just missing the surounding areas of the tower, and the top is blocked off due to rocks. Compared its location to the first game, it is exactly where it should be relative to the ruins of Gran Soren, its just that Gran Soren appears to be rotated 180° the wrong way, with the entrance facing NE instead of SW. So either the devs made a mistake, or it's deliberate. It could be that Gran Soren was shifted 180° when it was sunk. Clearly half the town is missing, and the landscape is drastically different. But we also need to take into consideration that this game takes place in a parallel world to what we play in Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen. This was confirmed by Capcom. So this is not the same timeline or cycle that we play in the first game, but it is similar. Even with half the city missing, you can clearly see that Gran Soren is visibly smaller in Dragons Dogma 2 and looks much more like a compact fortress compared to how its portrayed as a large city in the first game. Its features are very similar, just more compact. So this is %100 Gran Soren, just not %100 how we knew it because its in a parallel world to the one we knew, and in this world (DD2) it looks to have been a fortress (not a city) and is rotated 180° from how we knew it. One other thing, there's also no entrance in the old ruins of the pawn guild leading the everfall, or any sign that there ever was one.

    Basically, the last Seneschal from this cycle got bored and decided to break the rules. He descended to rule as king, likely used his godlike powers to reshape the land as well. The Pathfinder did not like that and as a result the second game is set in a world where the cycle is interrupted for who knows how many thousands of years.
