Fantastic! WOW! Reduce that to an hour hand with appropriate marks for the simplest of time pieces. Outstanding!

Great work. Could you tell me if a scroll saw would be adequate to achieve the necessary accuracy required by the mechanism?

Hi, this is only a test for the escapement and it works! I measured the cycle time and is repetitive enough, obviously the pendolum lenght is essential to have the correct time. I'm working now to build my first clock.

Nice movement, It looks like you spent some amount of time in Smoothing those wood gears! May I ask what method of cutting the gears was used, and if done with a Scroll Saw, etc. What size blades did you use??? OH, I saw that it was CNC Milled!

yes of course... CNC is the best solution, only few minutes to cut wooden gear!

Did you design the escapement wheel and anchor yourself? If so, what calculations or methods did you use to design them. I cannot download the program you used and am hoping to replicate them.

Hi Jack, I designed the wheel and anchor through a software program. The program allows you to resize the wheel and change the number of teeth. To be honest I made this mechanism a few years ago and I don't remember the software I used. But I can look for it again and write you a note ....

Marco, would you mind letting me know what a whole set of clock gears might run on CNC? I want to build a clock, but I do not want to spend the time actually cutting the gears. I have guys that will cut them out of brass, but I thought alternative materials might be interesting.

Hi Thomas, I used wood because it's easy to cut with my homemade cnc. The video show my first test I made just to understand how the graham escapement work. Have you seen the complete clock in my website www.marconidi.altervista.org ? To build a clock isn't difficult if you have a cnc machine... but first of all you must calculate all the gears in dimension and number of teeth...

Ho pochissimo sapere del tema, ma affascinato dagli orologi ho gia' guardato tante video per capire il loro meccanismo (e dunque il famoso "escapement" (scappamento?)). Questo qui e' d'una semplicita' che prodiga piacere.

It looks like a standard anchor escapement without enough drive train wheels to keep it going for long. But it looks very cool, and I congratulate the effort. Can I ask about how long it lasts before winding down?

Thanks Charles! The mechanism was just a test to see if I could build a wooden clock with my cnc machine ... In this case the pendulum worked for about 5 minutes before the weight hit the ground. If you look in my videos you can find other tests I have done, up to the realization of a complete wooden clock. In this case the charge was sufficient to make the pendulum work continuously for about two days ... Marco.

Hi Marco, I'm Martin of Buenos Aires Argentina, I'm a freshman in mechanical engineering, I saw your video mechanism graham escape, I want to make an escape mechanism and I found your video on youtube, wanted to know if you could send planes or the formulas you used to design the mechanism. I will surely make aluminum using a wire cutter and a machining center after work. From already thank you very much for your attention and any reply will be in aid, Greetings!

Martin Rodriguez Hi Martin, I'm glad you are interested in my project, it's only a test I did before making my first complete wooden clock. For the dimensioning of the gears I used the Gearotic software that can calculate and draw the Graham escapement or the Grasshopper escapement. The file generated by Gearotic has been imported into the Sketchup 3D software and then I developed the mechanism with the gears. To make the gears I also used the Gear Template Generator software. I can send you the files for the Sketchup 3D software (.skp) or in other format (.dwg or .dxf). Let me know your email so I can send you the file. Marco.
