    I LOVED this video! I've heard this before, I've heard you reference it before, and yet it is still a conflict within my own practices I always forget how to structure or organize. How you break down that 80-20 makes sooo much sense and although i forget it, the most productive and progressive periods of my career have been inherently falling into this regiment. Respect!

I can put together a decent pice just a throwing or a straight letter and I feel like I’m improving there with all the basics but not with THE BASICS. I have 100s of pages of tags and very basic tags and really crappy tags. I’ve I have searched the internet and the streets and have spent COUNTLESS hours trying to develop my hand style and and make it clean but I don’t feel like I show any progress. Any suggestions on how I can practice?

    sometimes you just need a change of mindset. if you have a wavy handstyle, try to do blocky and vice versa. throw some wild bold lines and then try something detailed. simetimes you can still do "fundementals" but they are based around your comfort zone, and thats where the least amount of knowledge is gained

    Like a lot of other things in life sometimes it’s best to keep it simple…you can always add to something but it’s much harder to fix/change something after its been done (unless it’s done in pencil) adding too many little extras can take away from what you were doing in the 1st place….leave the complex & complicated styles to the people who actually know what to do with them 🖤y’all stay safe-nothing but love from the DMV/Baltimore 🤨🍾💥🕺🏼🎉💙🎼💣🥶☠️❤️😵‍💫

    @@Theartistblock Even though I am a lot older than you (guarantee that I'm older than Chino and (especially) Klops ,and despite me absolutely, passionately loving graf since Subway art,I am still a still a mediocre bomber I still hugely respect both of the artists we are discussing (and please don't get it twisted I love and respect your work to,even if it is a bit Art F#$@y) but I still think my argument stands ,sometimes writers with the least amount of flair or style (and remember Cap won the battle of styles we have been in the age of the throw up for 25 years and that is not going away anytime soon) stick out the most,now Klops can bring crazy shit to the table,so can Kuma or Cecs but their round letters are instantly recognizable.And so their lack of style becomes a style.

    I'll give you 2 now super current examples,despite me being English I look to NYC as the epicenter of world graffiti (although I follow graf from L.A,Boston,Philly,Canada,Holland,France,Spain ,Italy ,you get the idea and I speak to dope writers new and old school) now I don't think that's it's up for debate that the most up writers up super duper all city in NYC are Cade and Par,both the most hardcore of bombers since JA One (and I know Serve and Loose have been on a crossing out JA mission for years but they are not up nearly as much as Cade and Par)took the crown in the early 90s ,these dudes along with TD (T.D is all state along with Panic,Coe and Zers) now Pars style is cleaner but Cades is a bit messier but that doesn't matter coz his throw is fuckin everywhere and so style and penmanship goes out of the window when it comes to sheer repetitiveness,and just like Cap in the subway era,style goes out the window when it comes to repetitiveness.Now I don't want to put anyone on blast but I speak to these guys and they insist that they are the top writers and who are we to argue this.???? Doesn't it depend on what you out of writing?????

  • @Theartistblock

    @Theartistblock

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@justincarr8178 I'm going to be honest I dont k ow what were discussing here. Any art ( even a basic shaded sphere or just some line on a page) it all technically is a style. So ya chinos basic straightletter or taki basic handstyle is a style and sure you can add style to these things like leaning a letter or messing with the weight so on so forth but that's not what I'm referring to in the video. I'm referring to beginners doing wildstyles instead of straight letters, I'm talking about new writers trying to scribble a crazy tag rather than doing legible letters, that's it. This video and my words and lessons in it arent about experienced people, they're just examples to show how good they are or to show more or less what to do. I think you're having a totally different convo. All I'm saying is practicing the basics is the fastest and best way to get better. Like I said in the vid, basic trial and error can get you progress but that progress takes decades to learn basic things while practicing the basics will teach you the same things and tons more 10x faster. That much is fact. As far as "best" , every writer thinks they're the best. Cant tell you how many old school writers from the 70s I spoke to who said the same, we gotta remember most people in this game have an ego. In the professional art world your skill is based off your knowledge of the 3 things I talked about in this video and to be the best youd have to be elite in all 3 of these. 99% of writers have no clue what elements of art are and they couldn't even tell you the artform specific fundamentals. That's not saying they arent good, not at all. Once you have a group that's elite in all 3 then best would come down to one outperforming the others in those areas or it would come to opinion if they're all equal. At the end of it though the difference between knowledge of these elite is so tiny to where it's pretty unnoticeable and insignificant to where it might as well be opinion based. Also graffiti is so underdeveloped to where even the elite in this field have a shit ton to learn in comparison to pro ( not elite) fine artist.

    For regular watcher its ok, because they know about fundamentals and connection between graffiti and other artforms, but I think that for people who are new to this channel it is not very interesting when you show portraits and landscapes as examples in graffiti oriented video. When you want to get new people to watch your channel you should consider videos just about graffiti. I can say, that few months ago when I discovered your channel I would not be interested that much in this video, I started watching your playlist about fundamentals at first. Because at that time a did not give a shit about other artforms. I was starting with graffiti and you know toys think differently than people who already learnt something from your videos. I would say like wtf is this guy talking about, I don not care about stupid portraits, better show me some graffiti. Hope you get the point I am trying to make.

    i like to use other arts as examples because they're more refined and developed. When i keep the videos 100% graffiti based i get comments indicating that graffiti isnt an art, when i include other artforms I hardly get those comments because it helps to connect graffiti to more solid information and bridges that gap for people. thats important, bridging the gap. Its important for graffiti artists to get outside of their safe space and get exposed to other artform that are farther along and better developed, and thats why i include it.
