Hi Pete, Wonderful finish, as usual! I’ve not done just a ceiling as the Wagner Control Pro I have has only a 15m 1/4“ hose and most of the paint I’d need would still be in it! I wonder how you found the GX21 compared with your usual machine? I note that SpraymanUK have a hopper option for the GX21 so, for now, I think this would probably be my next machine. With best wishes, Rob

Hi Rob, appreciate the feedback as always.. yeah a 4.5m 3/16” hose takes just 81ml and a 7.5m is 134ml.. it’s surprising how far you can reach with such short airless hoses.. regarding your point about a hopper, as you know I’m a big fan.. this setup is part of the SpraymanUK GX21FF bundle 😆 ..Just wanted to demo what you get out of the box, and run it in siphon mode for a bit (it’s a nice a change).. Eventually I’ll showcase a video installing the hopper and show how you can quickly switch between both modes.. it an original concept by SpraymanUK 👍 ..I very much like my Graco 395, it’s a workhorse but with that, there’s extra weight and a 110v transformer to carry.. The GX21 (and GX21FF) is a machine I’ve rated for a long time, and recommend them to P&D and DIYer users wanting a great airless spraying experience.. a Graco rep informed me of stories where these GX21 machines are being worked hard and lasting.. and if needed, these pumps can be swapped out yourself for not too much outlay.. Vs the bigger pump replacements which cost a little more 👍 ..always a pleasure to hear from you Rob, thanks again for sharing the info the other day.. all the best.. Pete

A little tip you can do in a situation like that (to retrieve / utilise what’s in the line).. when you’re out, some air will be sucked in, or at least let the pump draw in a little air.. then drop the siphon in a bucket of water, or in future if you have a hopper, sane principal add water to the hopper.. then with the system still pressurised, you can continue spraying the paint in the line.. the water will chase the material through 😆 you know when to stop because you’ll hear the air hit the gun / spray tip 👌👍😆

Hi, I am an amateur painter, just getting into spraying, love your videos - having watched numerous videos I am a bit confused as to why some people ‘backroll’ as they spray, seems particularly popular in the USA - is this something you have ever done or is it unnecessary when spraying. Thank you.

  • @PaintHQ

Hi Tony, thank you kindly for the words of support.. I’m so glad this channel is attracting a nice number of amateur painters, you’re more than welcome to ask any questions and I’ll always do my best to help you.. Regarding back rolling, I don’t tend to do it unless it’s requested or thought there’s a risk that touching up future ‘problems’ will not be possible.. if the touch up is not in a critical light area (lots of natural light flooding in), you can delicately touch up with those small sponge gloss rollers .. or use a Graco Ultra Handheld 😆 ..To me it seems such a shame to have to roller over a beautiful sprayed finish.. just like the principal of using a roller, it’s important to spray with a nice soft / feathered fan pattern, maintain a wet edge and overlap 50%.. the passes will dry down and ‘knit’ together.. in the USA, drywall is taped and jointed.. I understand the finish and texture is rougher than a skimmed plastered finish, that’s actually quite unique to the UK.. So smooth in the UK, potentially what’s called a level 5 or certainly a level 4 plastered finish.. I’m happy to get some input from anyone in the US reading this 😆 Hope this helps my friend, keep in touch, it’ll be great to hear from you on your spraying journey and have your input on here 👌👍😆 regards Pete 🎨💯

Would love to be convinced about spraying but I honestly don't see the benefit in small domestic jobs. Fair enough if you're commercial painting out warehouses etc. You could've cut and rolled that little ceiling in half the time without all the mess and faff.

Hello my friend, thanks for your input.. spraying ceilings can actually be sprayed in much cleaner and faster than a brush roller.. if using a roller you still need to cover / sheet up furniture, flooring ..spraying is the same, but spray at the lowest pressure with good technique, I make less mess than what can potentially occur with a roller.. plus it’s super quick, you not having to wait for a coat to dry before rolling 2nd coat.. cross hatch 2 coats your spray finish and you’re done 👍 all the best my friend.. regards Pete 💙💯

Hi Pete, I'm spraying a cornice and staircase in a big house for the first time next week with my gx19 and the client would like it in an oil based acrylic egg shell so I'll switch the filter in the gun to the 100 mesh and will probably be using a 210 or 310 FFLP tip. Would you advise diluting the paint slightly with white spirit before application ? And what would be the best way to keep the gun wet in between coats and then clean it out afterwards ? Sorry for all the questions! Any tips or advice would be great.

  • @PaintHQ

    @PaintHQ

    Жыл бұрын

Happy to help Kevin.. first thing is double check the data sheet / paint instructions to see what the solvent thinner / cleaner is.. it could very well be white spirit as you say.. When spraying fine finishes, I wouldn’t look to dilute straight the way, this is the same approach I follow with waterborne too.. with airless spraying it’s all about tip size.. you’re probably spot on with 210 / 310.. just be aware, whilst the flow (orifice size) is the same (.010).. the wider 310 will distribute a thinner coat, which can be beneficial to prevent runs 👍 .then keep a rag with white spirit (if that’s the thinner) handy, dump the pressure (prime), lock the gun trigger and wipe the tip guard 👍 then quarter turn the tip to block the orifice and wrap the tip guard in a cloth soaked in white spirit.. keep the lid on the G19 hopper and you’ll be absolutely fine between coats.. it’s all very forgiving, not as scary as you’d think.. then cleaning is simple too, perhaps easier than waterborne.. trick is to use small amounts of cleaner (white spirit).. prime the unused paint back to the can, run a fraction longer to draw a bit of air in.. then add white spirit to the hopper, about a quart and with the tip guard removed spray the paint out of the line into the can, until you hear a splutter (that’s the air, after that will be white spirit).. that’s all the precious paint back in the can.. then in prime, circulate small amounts of white spirit through the pump / hopper, and spray out of the line into a waste container.. like I say trick is to use small amounts of white spirit until clean.. after a couple of flushes, you can spray white spirit into the hopper and keep the trigger pulled to circulate through the line giving it a good clean.. finally clean / flush through with small amounts of diluted pump armour and store with pump armour in the pump.. flushing through with diluted pump armour is especially important if switching to waterborne material next 👍 sorry for the essay 🙈 hope it makes sense 😆 regards Pete

Hey Greg, apologies for delay in responding.. these units are very resilient, whilst I don’t advocate leaving material in overnight, if the pressure is released (prime) and gun is wrapped up in a wet cloth / plastic (don’t dump in water), the unit should be fine.. however I’d recommend giving the sprayer a quick couple of flushes through and protect with Pump Armor.. the process will take around 5 minutes.. also I always leave the hose and gun attached, I only ever remove if I’m needing a longer line, this speeds setup tine 👍 hope this helps, happy to advise if I can anytime 🙏 regards Pete

Which gun are you using my friend?.. First check you’re using the right seal / seat in the RAC X tip guard.. for example the tip guard that comes with the blue PAA tips is too big for FFLP tips.. see this video Graco Airless Spray Gun Spitting? You Could Have The Wrong RAC X Seal kzread.info/dash/bejne/aZ53zptqmqnWcto.html Although a spit when triggering on can indicate an ‘issue’ with the gun needle seating properly, something that does occur with age and can mean the gun needs repacking 👍 Regards Pete 💙

  • @PaintHQ

Hi Callum, ah great news my friend.. you’ve got an awesome setup that will meet all your needs and work hard for you 👍 ..Yeah I like a smaller 3/16” hose, for greater flexibility, uses less paint and quicker clean up.. I personally would just use the smaller 7.5m hose, for emulsion as well as woodwork, I know of other sprayers too that prefer it that way.. there is a valid thought that there is more friction in the hose with emulsion going through the smaller 3/16” hose, and with that the bigger 1/4” diameter is better suited.. more friction equals more work and strain on the pump.. hope that helps, I’m happy to explain my preference, but I also like to explain the text book answer 😆 ..keep in tough with how your setup goes 👍 ..any problems / questions, I’m happy to help if I can.. regards Pete

The tails didn't disappear until around 2000psi with that aqua gloss does that seem a bit high to you?. I'm glad that you mentioned the 7.5 hose for emulsion as that was going to be one of my questions haha

  • @PaintHQ

Hi Callum, yeah you can’t comprehend how quick paint can come out airless spraying.. a good tip when spraying woodwork is to move relatively quick on the first coat, then you can judge how much you can slow it down (plus the first coat will dry quicker).. laying on the ultimate coat is a fine balance, too little and it’s ‘rough’, too much and it will sag.. just right and it pulls in and dries to a beautiful finish 👌 ..regarding the pressure, it sounds right.. some materials don’t take to spraying too well, plus some fine finish tips are not low pressure.. you did the right thing, to keep easing up the pressure and testing until you get a nice pattern.. keep going my friend, you’re doing great 👍 ..regards Pete

Hi Anthony, it’ll be a pleasure to help you.. typically a 515 is best for most emulsions.. especially (in my opinion), the Wagner HEA 515.. at first don’t dilute the emulsion, just a good stir and working up the pressure, test each time on some brown paper.. however I found F&B emulsion doesn’t spray well at all, it takes a bigger tip (I found a TriTech 616 best), you could try a 517.. I believe the pigment in F&B paint doesn’t spray well through the airless tip, it’s not thick paint, and the tip didn’t clog.. just the fan pattern wasn’t good.. don’t be put off, it will spray, just needs some work.. keep in touch, let me know how it goes.. Hi Anthony.. just to reassure you, you’ve brought the right machine out of ultra handheld and GX21.. If you a fine finish hopper kit to the GX21 (unless you already have a GX21FF).. the hopper and smaller hose setup will mean you can spray small quantities of woodwork material.. then checkout the video below, I’m spraying AkzoNobel waterborne manufacturer coatings, using a compressor/air spray HVLP setup.. but these coatings equally spray beautifully through airless and a FFLP 208 / 308 tip (no thinning).. a compressor setup could a future investment, which would also allow for future progression to Air Assisted Airless ..but for now, I want to reassure you you’ve made the right choice.. to be able to spray emulsions too.. just needs your confidence building and I didn’t want you to be put off and struggling with F&B 😆 This is the hopper / smaller hose kit.. I believe you can ask for a FFLP 208 tip www.sprayman.co.uk/product/sprayman-uk-gx21ff-bundle This is my video featuring AkzoNobel.. links to products in the description.. kzread.info/dash/bejne/np97vKWPk7OcnJM.html Regards Pete

Hey Yaniel, thanks for your question, I’m more than happy to help advise.. the sprayer featured in this video, the Graco GX21 (also add a hopper if budget allows), in my opinion is the perfect sprayer for a domestic Painter & Decorator, or someone as you say is occasionally taking on painting jobs.. I’m not saying this because I’m featuring the sprayer, I’ve said this for a long time.. it is classed as an entry level machine, but there’s no question this sprayer will work hard for you when needed, and will last.. If you was taking on bigger contract work or spraying thicker external facade materials (more often), id recommend a 395 or 495 (bigger pumps).. I wouldn’t be tempted to go for a cheaper ‘DIY’ sprayer, it’s worth paying a bit more for a GX21 and get the full airless spraying experience.. the GX21 is actually a cost effective solution and a very well built machine.. hope this helps, always great to hear from you Yaniel.. happy to help if I can anytime.. regards Pete

Hi David, no you’re right I have a 395.. it’s a 110v pump and heavy to manoeuvre on small domestic jobs.. don’t get me wrong, I love it.. The GX21 (and GX21FF) is a machine I’ve rated for a long time, I’ve recommend them over and over to P&Ds.. I’m very happy to finally get my hands on one.. sounds like you’ve got a great setup with your team of sprayers, very nice ..well done buddy 👌👍😆 ..keep in touch, regards Pete

We dont use them to the same extent as you just for misting , spindles and doors on new builds But would never go back Been spraying about five/six years It take the pressure of the prices and some tight schedules plus improves the job in general finish I have two t5s and a 495 Wouldn’t be without em

@@PaintHQ not saying I’ve seen al your videos but do you never use tip /gun extensions , I find they make the job a lot easier especially on your back bending stretching etc

Yeah I know what you’re saying.. being tall, I’ll tend to use an extension only on really high elevations, such as walls / ceiling of a HSL.. but I know what you mean.. I’ve actually just got hold of the QTech QuickConnect extensions.. great addition that I plan to incorporate 👌 kzread.info/dash/bejne/mX2fm5SghpzdnM4.html

Hi Pete, very similar to the GXFF isn’t it? I’ve got a GXFF in the fleet😀, love it! Didn’t know about the shorter hose, very handy. Another great video, thanks for sharing. Hope you’re well. Cheers Allan👍

Hey Allan my friend.. both GX models are similar, the GXFF lending itself to fine finish work / spraying trim paints, by design with its inbuilt hopper.. and both the GX21 and GXFF take the same ProXchange pump replacement 👍 ..Yeah the shorter 4.5m hose is just that bit more manoeuvrable, and it’s surprising how far it reaches.. great for your average sized room.. hope you’re keeping well too, always a pleasure.. regards Pete

thank you very much for the quick reply. I'm just starting my adventure with spray painting and I bought Graco GX21. There are few videos on youtube with spray painting using oil paints. most shows how to paint with water based paints. I've learned a lot from your videos. thank you again and best regards.

Hi Pete, what's your views on clean shot.

  • @PaintHQ

Hey Stephen.. very good question.. in short, the cleanshot is an ingenious invention and most definitely reduces the chance of a spit when using gun extensions.. for me that’s the only time you would require a cleanshot.. in conjunction with a gun extension.. they’re not cheap, so it’s an investment to have one in your kit.. luckily I’m tall, so you’ll often find me spraying without any extension.. mainly I’ll use on high a stairwell, allows me to spray off the ground and minimise the use of a ladder (only using to mask the cut line, plastic the walls), before spraying the ceiling from the ground).. thanks again, appreciate your contribution on the channel 💯 keep in touch ..regards Pete
