    What annoyed me the most is that it's established later in the movie that the REV9 can just fire out multiple goop blades anywhere from its body. It uses this to kill a group of guards that try to tackle it to the ground. Knowing this, its choice to use its arms for obvious slashing and stabbing is just really inefficient and contradicts what a cold logical machine would do in a melee fight.

    @@tonystarkunlimited7332 how so? It showed off two abilities effectively in the movie. Dividing itself and shooting goop blades at the military guys when they tackle him. So then at least use those moves effectively. Might give you an advantage. T1000 abused his liquid metal effectively and got the better of his opponents and his evironment almost every single time. From opening elevator doors and hiding in the floor to mimicking a person and having sharp blades for hands. T800 was a hunky metal man that could withstand heavy bullet gun fire and could engage in combats and take heavy damage and still survive and still give lethal damage. The terminator in terminator 3 could turn its hands into any weapon it desired. The terminators in Salvation also always got the better of the heroes in air dog fights and other combat. It even outdid them in effective combat intelligence. So yes. Seeing this terminator fail every step just so that Dani, Grace, the old Linda Hamilton and Arnold could have one liners and epic scenes and moments is so terrible beyond belief. Edit 2: An another example of effective terminators are the sentinels in X Men Days of Future Past. In the very beginning we're given how effective the sentinels are as they kill all our favourite heros in the distant future. It sets the tone for how our main protagonists must try and stop the creator. So yes seeing this terminator is very useless.

    hahaha LOL, its such a good point. To be fair in fact He could of split and the liquid could of been the Father look and the Skelaton could of been hiding someone nearby as a back up. So when Grace shoot the liquid the robot would come running it too. What would have been more fun I think is if they sent Grace back with two Arnold T800's and all three fight the Rev9 in this starting scene and one or even both T800's get destroyed by the Rev9. It clearly show just how powerful it was and could have been. They should of made it more scary too. I feel a bit numb to the OVER-powered robots. I loved how scary the T800 was in T1 and how scary the T1000 was in the T2. Not asking for jump scares but some dark scenes, perhaps give the Rev9 a bit more of a spooky feel. I think it would of been better if the Rev9 could intimidaite and scare its hosts more than just hunting them down. The T1000 was scary as it could pull off human emotions better than the T800 could. The Rev9 could of had a set of programmed emotions to help it hunt its targets better.

    I honestly think they could've made this a good Terminator movie if not just a good movie. Even though the Rev-9 is basically the T-800 meets T-1000, I think the concept of it being able to have 2 seperate forms is cool and creative. These films aren't necessarily short on creativity but they ARE short on tension and heart. Terminator was a horror first, action second. Even T2 never lost its horror roots. These new films feel weightless. The actual machines are only just here to show a cool VFX thing and then get beat senselessly. The next thing these films are misding is heart. T1 was basically a romance and T2 a family film but there conflicts come from slasher horror/scifi. These new films don't put any emphasis on any relationship dynamics. They barely focus on it. Again, this Terminator film has lots of potential. Creative villain aesthetics, Sarah Connor, thematic opportunities (why the machines keep winning, JC's death, mostly female leads, etc. (imo this film should deal with grief and have the Rev-9 represent in a way the relentlessness of life and how we should could wrestling with it for own sakes and for those around us)). Idk man. I really wanted to hope for this franchise again but they played out every potential avenue for this story and failed at ALL of them. Like they say, the franchise is ruined.

    Honestly, I'd say this was the best fight in the movie. It really showed just how dangerous the fighting was in Grace's future considering how fast they're attacking and countering each other. You can tell they're moving much faster than normal people can, and it did a really good job showing the capabilities of both Grace and some of the abilities of the Rev-9. I just wish they'd have kept this kind of fight speed, even though I know the Terminator would have had no chance at the speeds they were moving since the T-800s are more designed to be power houses/tanks than be really fast. This one scene set up just how different and dangerous the new future is, especially once we find out that most people never survive longer than 30 seconds when fighting the Rev models.

    I don’t know about the t800 being out of its depth, it’s ability to learn and adapt is underestimated. For e.g the T1000 was very slick and may have been stronger than the Rev 9, yet the T800s ability to learn and adapt was evident in the entire movie. It would be fair to say the T1000 had a very strong chance of defeating the rev 9. The plane scene was great too it showed the durability of the T800 even though it was an older version and not maintained, but still had the ability to hold off the rev 9, long enough for them to escape. I think you’ll find the more modern the films the more power durability the T800 design is, like in genesis the arrival of the new T800 looked super powerful!!

    @Bjorn the overly, excessively enslaved singaporean Naturally. There were also some great scenes for character in Dark Fate as well, like the group's conversation with Carl. I watched that one a few too many times. The scene at the drug store also added a great deal of humanization to Grace in my opinion. Her behavior during the action scenes like her yells, snarls, and how disheveled and out-of-breath she is in between engagements really sold me on her as a character. I just wished they did more with her relationship with Dani. She seems to have a tendency to idolize her to an excessive degree, like how she would kneel before her occasionally and going so far as to hide the truth from her for the majority of the film, as if present day Dani didn't initially live up to her expectations (a notion further reinforced when she yells at her for attacking the Rev-9 so recklessly). Perhaps that could've been explored more. I also really liked the Rev-9. A strength of Terminator Salvation that I think this movie really capitalized on was that with the exception of the T-800, the previous terminator models, especially the T-1000, had a sleek and clean aesthetic from both their appearance as humans (like a lean, neatly-combed policeman or a sharply-dressed lady with impeccable makeup) and as machines that made them uniquely inhuman. The Rev-9 takes a different aesthetic approach that makes it a fine addition to the franchise in my opinion. Its liquid metal looks distinctly greasy and filthy, and even the endoskeleton's darker shade makes it look more battle-hardened. The way in which the liquid metal slides against the endoskeleton reminds me of blood-vessels and muscle tendons, and its weapons look rusted and battered, unlike the flawless surfaces and luster of the T-1000. The fact that the Rev-9 also seems so much more human (whether it be its acting ability or its predatory stare) and that improved CGI technology allows it to move in truly astonishing ways really sells the concept of the Rev-9 as less of an unfeeling killer and more like a rabid animal, at least to me. Your thoughts on the characters?

  • @andrewwang8021

    @andrewwang8021

    3 жыл бұрын

    @Bjorn the overly, excessively enslaved singaporean I feel that the Rev-9 is a nice antagonist for this film, considering the relatively lower power levels of Grace compared to a T-800 or T-850. While it may not be the most powerful Terminator, it wouldn't have made sense for me if Grace took on a model more powerful than the Rev-9, or the film's believability and grittiness may have suffered, something that really enhanced the scenes that it was a part of. The airplane battle, while visually stunning, did not possess the more grounded and personal nature of the factory, prison, and dam fights, and as a result, it lacked the impact of the other three in my opinion. I personally don't get the "feminist" take that many critics of the film have blasted it for, like the line about the importance of Dani's "womb" or the fact that she is the leader of the resistance, so I would appreciate it if you could explain it to me.

    The effects in Dark Fate were fantastic. I loved the damage the Rev-9 took, and find myself wanting to watch the fight scenes over and over. It is a shame that the film itself is so lukewarm. Too much action, not enough character-development and a lot of weak scenes, especially the one’s involving Rose in the future. The rehashing of the theme from T2 did not help, and felt hollow. Sarah Connor being a one-note, shrew-drunk was just depressing.

    Here's the biggest issue I draw with this movie: Later, after the car chase and Diego's death, Grace explains to Dani that the Rev-9 (Like many Terminator models from previous movies) require physical contact to mimic someone's appearance, voice and mannerisms. However, at 1:31, Grace *grabs the Rev-9's arm blade* yet he *does not mimic her* at all throughout the rest of the movie. Long story short, not an entirely bad movie, I just wish many Hollywood movies would follow their own logic and keep it that way for who-knows-how-many-more movies like this come out.
